Posted on: Tuesday, August 26, 2014Marg, Scott, Reid and Lori,
There are no words that I could say that could possibly express the sorrow I feel for your family’s loss. Doug (Mr. Sargeant, as I knew him) was someone who I knew growing up as one of my dad’s closest buddies and long time golf partner. I can remember a warm summer’s day when Mr. Sargeant and his son, Reid, joined my dad (Carl) and I for a fun round of Father’s Day golf together. Doug and dad always seemed to hit the fairways while Reid and I floundered in the rough.
I recall as an even younger boy sneaking from my bed to listen to Doug, Marg (Mrs. Sargeant then) and my mom (Phyllis) and dad in our living room, bent over in laughter together as all would be sharing their best war and canteen stories….I could not miss Mr. Sargeant’s deep baritone laughter as they relived those fond memories.
And, it was through looking up to Mr. Sargeant, the Engineer, that first pointed me as a young boy in that same career direction….Marg, I bet you never knew that…..
Well, good bye great soldier, a leader of men… and an Engineer’s Engineer….I prey and trust you and my dad are partnering now along heavenly fairways, together again.
With our deepest sympathy, Marg, to you, the boys and Lori. God Bless you all….and God Bless Doug…..Thanks for the memories.
Take care….John (and Maricela) Greenough
