Born and raised in Burlington, ON to John and Mary Atkins. Mary Lou graduated from teacher’s college and went to work at the Ross W. Macdonald School for the Blind in Brantford, where she met Jack, her husband of 67 years. After moving around for several years for Jack’s work at the CNIB, they finally settled in Barrie, ON where Mary Lou taught for many years at Codrington Public School.
Mary Lou is survived by her husband Jack, and her 3 children; Lauren (Tim Ward), Dan (Jennifer), and Robyn (Rob Duncan), and her 8 grandchildren; Morgan, Tristyn and Devon (Ward), Kristin and Jakob (Clements) and Corbin, Kelsey and Rhys (Duncan), and 7 great-grandchildren; Kohl, Nyla, Stevie, Jack, Archie, Miles, and Elliot, as well as her brother John D. Atkins of Lindsay, ON.
We will be having a Celebration of Life at Grace United Church (350 Grove St E, Barrie) on Saturday, June 21, 2025, between 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary Lou’s memory may be made directly to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.
