John Francis Thomson

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of John Thomson at the age of 93.  John is survived by his wife Happy (nee Helen LeGard), daughter Diane Thomson (Brian Burke), son Peter Thomson (Terry), son Alan Thomson (Sandy) and daughter Mary Thomson (Paul Kimmerer).  He leaves behind granddaughter Gail DeMille (Kevin), granddaughter Karen Burke (Kyle Lauzon), grandson Grant Kimmerer (Amelia Nichols), granddaughter Julia Kimmerer (Mark Harrower), grandson Nolan Thomson, great grandson Henry DeMille, great granddaughter Nora DeMille and great grandson Martin Harrower.

Born in the family’s home in Weston (Toronto) to Frank and Edna Thomson (deceased), followed by brother David, John worked for Ontario Hydro in the early 1950’s, helping to facilitate the grid system’s changeover from 25 to 60 cycle.  He joined his father’s plumbing business in Thistletown (Rexdale, Toronto) in 1954 becoming a Master Plumber and Master Gasfitter where he worked until his retirement in 1987.  He enjoyed and excelled at many hobbies including antique cars and boats, wooden boat and furniture restoration, antique engine restoration, antique gas lamp restoration and RC model aircraft.

As per the family’s wishes, the funeral is for immediate family.  A memorial gathering will be held later.
