Passed away peacefully on May 18, 2025, at the age of 96. Beloved husband of the late Gisela Baues. Loving father of Susan (Gord), and Karen (Darrell). Cherished grandfather of Helena, Dillon, Allison (Tyler), and Brian.
In his younger years, Alfred was a talented pianist and occasional singer, performing in a band that played big band-style music. His love for music never faded, and he remained a devoted fan of the big band era, with Glenn Miller being his all-time favourite artist.
Alfred immigrated to Canada in 1958 with his wife Gisela, where they started their family. A highly skilled chess player, he also enjoyed many card games with family—especially “mau mau,” a favourite around the table.
A devoted animal lover, Alfred had many cats throughout his life, once sharing his home with six or seven. His last and most treasured companion was his cat Rosie, who brought him great comfort and joy in his later years.
Alfred will be remembered for his sparkling blue eyes, his ever-present smile, and his enduring warmth—even as his health declined, he continued to meet each day with grace and a gentle heart.
