Born in Hamilton, Ontario in 1929, Mary lived a full and vibrant life. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Kirk Thornton, and will be deeply missed by her children Kathy Wray (Howard), Barb Thornton, Trish Thornton, and Bob Thornton (Lois). She was the proud grandmother of Jason and Kelly Wray (Ken Taniguchi), Chris and Andrew Foster, and Ellen and Hannah Thornton, and is also remembered by her brother David Lawrence Page.

Mary will be fondly remembered for her biting sense of humour, her deep love of jazz and swing, and her endless creativity. She knit cozy sweaters for her kids and grandkids and baked the best bread and dessert squares anyone ever tasted.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to all the staff and caregivers at Leacock Lodge and Leacock LTC Home for their kindness, compassion, and excellent care.

Mary’s warmth, wit, and love will be cherished always by those who knew her.

Please accept our sincere condolences. We had the great pleasure of having your mom and dad as our neighbours for many years and always enjoyed their company. We particularly enjoyed your mom’s quiet ways and keen sense of humour. May she rest in peace.

My sincere condolences to the entire family. I have known Mary since meeting Barb in grade 9. I had never met a Mom like Mary. Books surrounding her. Mary and Kirk discussing town and world issues. Meanwhile, kids running to and fro. It was like organized chaos including Pogo biting the lawnmower wheels. A real eye-opener for me. Please rest in peace now Mary with Kirk by your side again.
