It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Wanda McComb (née Gethons) on September 18, 2025, at Southlake Regional Health Centre, in her 83rd year.
Wanda was a devoted and loving mother to Lisa Longhurst (Allan) and Ryan Provenzano, both of Barrie. Caring stepmother to Tammy Robbins (Dan) of Calgary and Heather Ummels (Mike) of Phelpston. Proud Nanny to Kaitlyn, and Great-Nanny to Michael, Maria, and Max, who brought endless love and light to her life.
She was predeceased by her husband Jim, her parents Don and Phyllis Gethons, and her brothers Don and Bill Gethons. Wanda was a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews, and she will be fondly remembered by her extended family and friends.
Wanda dedicated many years of her career to GE, where she formed a lifelong friendship with Donna Truman, before later joining Baxter. Even in retirement, her strong work ethic carried on as she served as a superintendent.
At home, Wanda was known for her big heart, sense of humour, and her ability to keep the Gunn Street Crew in line. She welcomed Lisa and Ryan’s friends as if they were her own, earning the affectionate nickname “Wicked Wanda.”
Wanda’s love of animals was a defining part of her life. Whether rescuing kittens, feeding the birds and squirrels, or caring for a wild rabbit, her nurturing spirit shone through in everything she did.
We are deeply grateful to Surgeon Dr. Rehman and the phenomenal nurses and physicians of the CVS team at Southlake for their exceptional care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful for donations to Furry Friends www.furryfriendsbarrie.com or to a pet rescue of your choice, reflecting Wanda’s lifelong love of animals.
