Melvyn “Mel” David Bennett

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Melvyn “Mel” David Bennett on October 10, 2025, at the age of 84 years.

Beloved husband of Bernadette “Jill” for 56 wonderful years.  Loving father of Amy (Brent) and Patrick (Jennifer).  Proud and cherished Papa of Katie, Blair, and Eric.  Dear brother of Fred (Pam), and Donna, and predeceased by his sister Janice.

Mel dedicated nearly 30 years to the City of Scarborough, where he was a valued and respected worker.  He had a deep appreciation for art, especially painting with acrylics, and a love for lighthouses and nature.

He was a loyal Toronto Blue Jays fan.  In his younger years he played softball as a pitcher.  Mel also enjoyed carpentry and woodworking and was a former member of the Sandycove Art Club.  He loved the ocean, making countless family trips to Daytona Beach, and had a special affection for little ones, often getting right down on the floor to play with them.  Mel will be fondly remembered for his kind heart and laughter.
