Nelson Anthony Gauthier

October 11, 1939 - November 10, 2025

Funeral Details: In keeping with Nelson’s wishes, cremation has taken place.

Passed away peacefully on Monday, November 10, 2025, at the age of 86 years, at Etobicoke General Hospital, Etobicoke, Ontario.

Born in Truro, Nova Scotia, Nelson was the son of the late Joseph and Ida Gauthier (née Shepherd).  He was predeceased by his partner of 40 years, Maureen Walker (2021).  Nelson will be fondly remembered and missed by his stepdaughter, Shannon Walker, and by his granddaughter Amanda Walker and family.  He will also be remembered by his niece Rosemarie in Germany. He was predeceased by his siblings Harold, Raymond, Vivian, Jeanne, Jack, Arthur, Agnes, and Evelyn.

For over 21 years, he began each day with a group of wonderful people at McDonald’s on 25 Carrier Drive in Etobicoke, where he enjoyed his morning coffee, scrambled eggs (made just for him), and a newspaper.  During that time, he formed many lasting friendships, especially with the former owners, Ron and Linda, who remained a close part of his life until the very end.  The daily companionship of his McDonald’s friends brought him great joy and was something he looked forward to every morning.

Donations in memory of Nelson may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

“When I had to leave you, I didn’t go too far.

Look up to the heavens.  I’m a brilliant shining star.

When we miss each other and want each other near,

you shine your light upon the earth, and I’ll shine my light up here.

So we always will remember.  When we seem so far apart.

To shine our light together, with love upon our hearts.”

We were extremely saddened to read the Obituary for Nelson. We met Nelson over 60 years ago in Truro. Nelson came to work for Western Caissons in Brookfield. He was a hard worker, a good friend and a very likeable fellow. He enjoyed the time he spent at his trailer in Gores Landing. Nelson spent many hours boating, fishing and visiting with all the friends at the trailer park. He had a great sense of humor and always had something interesting to talk about. He loved to visit with his many friends in Toronto. Our friendship over the years has formed many fond memories of Nelson and Maureen and all the fun times we had together. May they both REST IN PEACE

Im so sorry to hear of Nelson passing. He was a long time seasonal resident in Gores Landing. He was a very great person and has been very missed since he left a couple of years ago. I loved seeing him here with his dog Mickie. Our dogs got along very well. I have many fond memories of Nelson and Mickie.
    Rest in peace, Nelson
