Albert Levi Mitchell

Albert Levi Mitchell, known as Al, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2026, at the age of 89.

Al was born on July 22, 1936, in Walton Park, Liverpool, UK, to the late Levi and Margaret Mitchell.  He emigrated to Canada in 1957 following in the footsteps of sister Margaret and brother John.  Al spent his early years raising his family with wife Dorothy, in Toronto, GTA and eventually settling in Muskoka.  He was a jack of all trades including a journeyman stone mason, professional boxer, professional dog trainer and dog psychologist.  He trained guide dogs for the blind, security dogs for the provincial police and was an expert consultant for multiple court cases involving animals.

If Al wasn’t training dogs, he was busy boxing, running, or building.  Al was always seeking knowledge and had a diverse library with books on subjects including psychology, physiology, boxing, and fitness.

Al was a storyteller, so funny and generous.  He touched the hearts and funny bones of everyone he met.

Al is survived by his children: Alan, Michael, Sandra, and Tina, granddaughter  Stephanie, his sisters Margaret and Evelyn, and his brother John and he will be missed by his nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.

In accordance with his wishes, a private cremation has taken place.
