Arnie peacefully passed away in his 89th year in Barrie, Ontario at Roberta Place on Saturday, March 14, 2026.

Born and raised in Burnley, Lancashire, England, Arnie was predeceased by his wife, Patricia; his brother Harold (Jean); and his sister Dorothy (Raymond).  He is survived by his youngest sister Mary (predeceased by Bill).

Arnie married Patsy on April 1, 1961, and in 1973 they immigrated to Canada with their two daughters, Karen Kidman (Mike) and Alison Lintner (Steve).  He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Devan Leeds (Rebecca), Cameron Lintner (Sam), Shauna Sisti (David), and Logan Lintner (Alyssa), as well as his great-granddaughter Emma Leeds.  He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and dear friends around the world.

Arnie was a gentle, kind man – stubborn at times, but always witty and full of wisdom.

He proudly served in the British Army from 1957 – 1959 as a Sapper in the Royal Engineers, stationed in Aldershot and Germany, he enjoyed time spent in Holland.  During his service, he built bridges and roads, worked with explosives and rifles, and developed his carpentry skills.

After moving to Canada, Arnie worked in construction, building homes.  He later became a foreman in machine and automotive shops, working with Mechanical Cables, Drut Industries, and Industrial Commutators.

Arnie had a gift for fixing and building almost anything.  He took pride in renovating his home, and his basement workshop and shed were his sanctuary.  He was always happily tinkering or spending time in his garden.

He loved family gatherings, cottage vacations, fishing, camping, and travel.  He was devoted to his grandchildren, attending their soccer, lacrosse, and hockey games.  Arnie was also an excellent dart player and enjoyed curling.  As a member of the Legion and Army & Navy, he cherished time spent socializing, playing darts, and cards.  He loved Sudoku puzzles, was an avid reader, and enjoyed long road trips throughout Ontario.

Cremation has taken place, and interment will be held at Innisvale Crematorium in Innisfil, Ontario on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 12:00 p.m.

A Celebration of Life will be held at The Bull and Barrel Pub in Barrie on Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Salvation Army

Uncle Arnie you will be missed by many. I fondly remember your guidance over the years; planting in the garden and reaping its rewards, fixing the chains on our bicycles when they fell off, putting back together Karen’s bike when it split in two while she was riding it. I remember well all the family camping trips, bbq’s at Centennial beach, costume parties. Thank you for all the wonderful memories and for being such a great big brother to my Mum.
Karen, Alison and families we are so sorry for your loss and you are in our thoughts. ❤️
