It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of John Michael Sanders, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend who left this world on March 31, 2026.  His absence leaves a deep void and his love, laughter, and legacy will live on in all that knew him.

John was the beloved husband of his soulmate, Carolanne, with whom he recently celebrated 61 years of marriage.  They shared a partnership filled with love, laughter and true commitment.

He is survived by his younger sister Judith Ross (née Sanders).  He is the cherished father of Deborah Marais, predeceased by her husband Andre Marais and now supported by Jassen Phillips, and of his son Jeffrey Sanders and daughter-in-law Sandi Sanders.  Grandfather to Kylee (Mitch), Hailey (Joe), Jonathan (Alex) and Kasey (Cassidy), and great grandfather to Kinley and Everly.  He will be deeply missed by all of his nieces and nephews who meant the world to him.  John always took the opportunity to tell the world how proud he was of his family.

John lived life to the fullest and could never sit still.  He was a gifted Service Manager at General Motors for over 35 years, followed by becoming a passionate bus driver where he enjoyed decorating the bus and making each day special for the children he brought to school.  Outside of his work, he volunteered 15 years of his life to helping Soldiers Memorial Hospital in Orillia.

He was a big fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Toronto Blue Jays.  John had a great sense of humour and often had a quick offside comment that would make anyone laugh.  His hosting was enjoyed by everyone with his fancy cocktails on serving trays delivered with a bright smile.

John was one of a kind.  His legacy is etched into the hearts of those who loved him through memories, photos, his charismatic nature and the warmth he left behind.  He will be missed more than words can say.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Thursday, July 9, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Hawk Ridge Golf Club (1151 Hurlwood Ln, Severn, ON).  All are welcome to join in honouring John’s memory.

If desired, memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
