Douglas Yeoman Goltz

It is with sadness and heavy hearts that we share the passing of Douglas “Doug” Goltz at the Royal Victoria Hospital (RVH) in Barrie, Ontario, with his family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer.

Doug will be greatly missed by the love of his life, Helen Christie, with whom he shared 40 wonderful years of love and companionship; his son, Lorne Douglas Goltz; his cherished granddaughters, Alexandra Goltz and Jamie Siva (née Goltz), and her husband Jana Siva; and his surviving siblings, Murial Cairns, Carol Goltz (the wife of his late brother Donald Goltz) and Marion Goltz (the wife of his late brother Harold Goltz); as well as his nieces and nephews and their families. He is also survived by his cat and loyal companion, Holly, who will miss him terribly. He was predeceased by his loving parents, Roy Goltz and Lena Goltz (née Yeoman); his youngest son, Trevor Lee Goltz; his older brother, Donald Goltz; his younger brother, Harold Goltz; and brother-in-law, Ron Cairns (the late husband of Murial Cairns).

Doug was born and raised in Muskoka on his family farm in Bardsville, Ontario. After high school, Doug began a successful career with the Ministry of Transportation in Toronto and retired at the age of 55. This allowed Doug 33 years of retirement, during which he was able to enjoy many hobbies, including bowling, curling, snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, dancing, and his greatest passion, golfing. He also enjoyed get-togethers with his friends and family.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to all the palliative caregivers, doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals at RVH for all their support and compassion throughout Doug’s final years and, especially, during his final days. Your care brought comfort during some of the most difficult moments, and for that, we will always be grateful.

There will be a Celebration of Life taking place at North Granite Ridge Golf Club in Port Sydney, Ontario, on Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.
