Barry Jones

Passed away peacefully on September 16, 2026 at the age of 86 years.

Barry was the beloved son of the late Sidney and Jessie Jones.  Beloved husband of Christine (2013).  He was a loving father to Glenn (Patty), and the late Brian (2025), and a caring stepfather to Stephen (Carly) and Andrew (Leanne).  Former husband of the late Cheryl (2021), the mother of their children.  Dear grandfather to Connor, Vanessa, Alexis, Lucas, and Madison.  Brother of the late Carole (2021).

Barry was initially hired by Trans Canada Airlines in 1958, starting on the ramp in the summers for Air Canada in Winnipeg.  As Barry joked, there wasn’t much glory servicing a DC3 lavatory on a cold winter night.

That exposure to aviation drew him towards the cockpit.

After three years as a school teacher he pursued his flying licences at the Winnipeg Flying Club. A couple of years later he had the requisite licences and hours to apply to Air Canada.  Hired by the airline on the last course in 1967 left him at the bottom of the seniority list for 5 years.  Nevertheless, he always considered himself fortunate and relished his career.

He flew the Vickers Viscount, DC8, DC9, L1011, B747 retiring as an A320 Captain in 1995.

With his wry smile and his remarkable recall he always had a good story or an interesting tale.  As a conscientious and experienced pilot Barry was well liked by his fellow pilots and co-workers during the course of his career.

In retirement, Barry purchased his dream boat, a Chris-Craft that he cleverly named "Chris' Craft."  He found great enjoyment on his boat, entertaining friends and family, or just relaxing and reading his newspapers.
