It is with great sadness, yet hope in God, that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Janny Stassen (née Smouter), on September 18, 2026, at the age of 89.
Born in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, on June 25, 1937, Janny immigrated to Ontario, Canada, in 1952, where she met her husband, Henk Stassen (1934–2020), where she raised her five children.
She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her children, Rob (Ellie), Lisa (Rob), Julie (Bill), Wil (Amanda), and Emily (James); her grandchildren; and her 11 great-grandchildren.
Janny will be remembered for her kind and empathetic spirit, quick sense of humour, generous love, and the friendship she so readily offered to those around her.
In recent years, our family grieved as dementia gradually took so much of the mother we knew and loved. Yet we now find comfort and joy in releasing her to freedom and wholeness in the presence of Jesus. We give thanks for the legacy of love and hope she leaves behind.
A quiet, family funeral was held on Tuesday, September 22, 2026. Following her interment, her children and grandchildren will gather to share memories and celebrate her life.
