It is with profound sadness that the family of Thomas Vincent Purcell announces his sudden passing in September 2026.

Tom was a deeply loved father to Sarah Yandell (Brian), Amelia Purcell, and Alec Purcell (Lauren), and a proud grandfather to Logan, Evelyn, Michael, Jameson, Mackenzie, Jackson, and Hunter. His children and grandchildren were a source of immense pride and joy, and his love, guidance, and unwavering support will remain with them always.

Tom will be remembered by his longtime partner, Deborah Platt; her children, Rachael, Katelyn (Nick), and Daniel; her grandchildren, Lennon, Dylan, Lilly, and Owen; and her parents, Roy and Heather. He shared a close bond with Deborah’s family and embraced them as his own.

Tom is also survived by his loving parents, Bill and Beverly Purcell, and his siblings, Sue Purcell (Dan), Bobby Purcell (Erin), and Donna Ryan (Rob), with whom he shared a lifelong bond. He will also be deeply missed by his nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends.

Born in Nova Scotia, Tom grew up in an Air Force family, living in communities across Nova Scotia, Ontario, and British Columbia. He eventually settled in Barrie, Ontario, where he raised his family, built his career, and proudly made his home for the past 35 years.

Tom worked as an air traffic controller for nearly 35 years and took great pride in his profession. He valued the people he worked alongside, and many of those relationships became lasting friendships that extended well beyond the workplace.

Known for his quick wit, sharp humour, and unmistakable sarcasm, Tom brought a strong personality and a straightforward approach to life. He was an amazing storyteller, with a gift for bringing memories to life and keeping those around him entertained. He spoke his mind, offered practical advice, and could always be counted on when someone he loved needed help.

Tom enjoyed fishing and golf, and time spent with his friends and family. Nova Scotia remained close to his heart, and in recent years, he and Deborah spent their summers at their cottage there, enjoying a place that connected him to his roots.

The outpouring of love and the many stories shared since Tom’s passing reflect the lasting impression he made on those who knew him. He will be remembered for his loyalty, humour, strength, and deep love for his family. His voice, laughter, advice, and reassuring presence will be profoundly missed.
