Danny Russell Lowry

Funeral Details:

DANNY (Dan) RUSSELL LOWRY Passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 10th, 2016 at Hospice Simcoe with his beloved wife Kim (Carr) by his side.  Dan and Kim have 3 children, Gregg, Nyssa and Sarah, who were all able to spend time with their dad in his final days.  His Mom, Mary Lowry of Stroud was also able to be there, along with his sister Cheryl MacDonald, her husband Greg, and their son Fred. He was predeceased by his father Don and his grandparents Russell and Dorothy Lowry.

Dan grew up in Stroud and attended Sunnybrae Elementary School, Barrie Central Collegiate and RCC in Toronto. NCR was his employer, and in the past he also worked for GEEP and NEX innovations.  He celebrated life through hobbies that included camping, cycling, snowmobiling on vintage skidoos, listening to records in his album collection, and trying to convince everyone that aliens exist.

A unique soul, Dan was known for being silly and unabashedly friendly, oftentimes to his family’s great delight and/or embarrassment. He will be so greatly missed, but his legacy will live on whenever there’s too much wasabi on a piece of sushi, someone who refuses to dress as anything but Frankenstein for Halloween, or when someone wears a white shirt to a spaghetti dinner.

Prior to his passing, he made note that he’s around whenever you see a $20 bill…which you will.

A celebration of life will be held at the Barrie Legion at 410 St. Vincent Street in Barrie, on Saturday March 19, 2016. The service will begin at 6:00 pm and following the service there will be a reception until midnight where we will listen to music of Dan's choice, toast his life and reminisce and remember.

Thank you to all of the doctors involved in his treatment. Thank you also to Bayshore and CCAC for all the support and care that they provided. All of the nurses and PSW's were wonderful to Dan. Special thanks to Nadia who went above and beyond and helped give Dan and Kim a voice and make more informed decisions.

Donations can be made in Dan’s memory to Hospice Simcoe www.hospicesimcoe.ca, which is a wonderful place helping give families a home and keeping their residents comfortable during such a trying time.  You can learn more about Dan's journey and leave words of comfort for the family by visiting his page at Caringbridge.org

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

My Cousin Dan was truly one of a kind.

He could always find the humor in every situation, a practical joker and always had a smile.  We appreciated his visit to BC for our wedding.
