Dwayne Frank Crane

March 13, 1949 - December 1, 2025

Funeral Details: A Celebration of Life will take place on a later date.

It is with sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of a husband; father; grandfather; and friend.  After a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease, Dwayne left us at the age of 76.  He was born in Barrie to Ron and Joan Crane.  He was an only child, growing up close with his beloved mother “Joan.”

Dwayne was an active and outdoorsy child and youth, who never shied away from his next hunt, or adventure.  He completed his education at Barrie Central Collegiate, where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn. They had two children: Tim (Anita); Miranda (Rich); and later five beautiful Grandchildren: Felicia; Dirk; Alexandra (Chris); Hannah; and Avery.  To Dwayne, his family was everything.

Dwayne was a hard working, contributing member to his community.  He started his work life at the Barrie Tannery, later working for Chubb Securities in the fabrication of bank vaults.  Dwayne was dedicated; hardworking; and never missed a day’s work.  He was always willing to lend a hand, or help out a friend.

Dwayne loved the outdoors.  He was an avid outdoorsman.  He fished all year long, including building his own Ice Hut, which he transported onto Kempenfelt Bay every season.  He also looked forward to annual hunt camps in the fall, with his son Tim, and the boys hunting deer, goose, partridge, and ducks.  He instilled his love of the outdoors, in both of his children.

When Dwayne wasn’t hunting, you could find him, lending a hand to anyone who needed it.  He loved tinkering, and socializing.  He always had a story for every occasion.  He was also competitive.  He bowled; or cheered for his favorite hockey team “the Leaf’s;” and followed every event in the winter Olympics, always cheering for his Canadian favorites.  He was an avid “Garage Saler” in the summer looking for the next “deal.”

As Parkinson’s took hold, he adapted, collecting model trains, building his own model railroad track, and landscape throughout his basement.  When he wasn’t tinkering with his trains, he enjoyed camping; watching movies; and collecting old VHS’s.  He had the largest collection of old VHS’s of anyone we know.

The family would like to thank the dedicated staff of the I.O.O.F., Long Term Care facility, who took such great care of him, these last few years.  The family would also like to thank RVH Specialized Senior’s Care Unit, for their efforts in supporting Dwayne’s, end of life journey.  The care, compassion, and love you all showed was appreciated

As per Dwayne’s wishes cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.  Arrangements entrusted to Peaceful Transitions, Barrie.
