With great sorrow Edgar Kurt Franz Hergert has passed away on December 28, 2017 at the hospital in Bracebridge Ontario after a long battle to get back on his feet. He was in his 88th year. Edgar had 7 hip surgeries in total, and the recent last one was a turn that he could not navigate to completion. He was a strong fighter to the end. Coming from Plauen Germany in the early 50’s by boat dad was later joined by Erika Josepha Ballerstaedt from Troisdorf (Koln) Germany. Shortly after they married and began a Canadian family having a son, Brian and daughter Denise. Edgar and Erika had many years of happiness together travelling, cottage life, and being true to each other to the end. Edgar and Erika became Canadian citizens by choice, not chance, never forgetting their German roots as proud Canadians extending the family tree to this side of the Atlantic. Edgar was a Union steamfitter with Local 46 as well as a trade school teacher during his working life in Toronto. He was a Freemason in Patricia Lodge 587 Thornhill, On. Edgar was a man of conviction and strong beliefs throughout his life. He was a good man always eager to give a helping hand when needed, and always giving a person respect and the benefit of the doubt at all times. He was a proud husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, never forgetting all the family in Germany, giving all, he could to all of us throughout his lifetime. Dad, we miss you so much but we know you are in a great place now with Mom in peace and happiness!
Family Celebration of Life will be at Innisvale Cemetery in Innisfil Ontario Friday February 23, 2018 at 2:00 pm when he will be put together with Erika Hergert, his loving wife, for the rest of eternity.
Here are song lyrics from “The Sound of Music” as both Edgar and Erika visited the film location in Austria together which was one of the many highlights of a happy time together that Dad remembered to the end.….
Edelweiss, Edelweiss
Every morning you greet me
Small and white, clean and bright
You look happy to meet me
Blossom of snow may you bloom and grow
Bloom and grow forever
Edelweiss, Edelweiss
Bless my homeland forever
Edelweiss, Edelweiss
Every morning you greet me
Small and white, clean and bright
You look happy to meet me
Blossom of snow may you bloom and grow
Bloom and grow forever
Edelweiss, Edelweiss
Bless my homeland forever
