With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Elaine Haggart, surrounded by her family and friends, on March 8th, 2026 at Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie at the age of 72.
Elaine was born in May 1953 in Sudbury, Ontario. She is survived by her brother, Edward Preston of Sudbury, her daughters, Donna (Fernando) of Barrie, Tammy (Cory) of Sudbury, and Filva (Chris) of Courtice; her grandchildren, Jesse, Lindsay, Logan and Nick, her great-granddaughter Willow, and her partner, Bob Waters of Maxwell.
Elaine was a dedicated woman and was devoted to her workplace in retail. She loved her many friends and family, and she had many interests such as gardening, camping, crafts, and card games. Elaine was also an animal lover and had come to appreciate travelling to different destinations.
Elaine was very nature oriented. Many days, she could be found weeding, potting or planting in the garden. Rain or shine. She loved walking in nature, and camping with her family. In her younger years, she also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Elaine was also a very crafty person. When her daughters were children, she delighted in making them matching outfits for various events. She also enjoyed painting, knitting, floral arranging, decorating and even re-upholstering furniture.
Elaine took pleasure in social fundraising for Breast Cancer with her colleagues. She also enjoyed her work in retail immensely and thrived in welcoming and mentoring new teammates.
Over the years, she became the loving home to an army of stray cats, as she could not turn away a stray in need.
In her later years, Elaine discovered international travel and developed a love of cruises and the port excursions they offered. She relished planning events for friends and family, as well hosting family functions.
Elaine will forever be remembered with so much love by the countless lives she touched. She will remain in our hearts always.
The family wishes to express their thanks and appreciation to the staff in the Trauma Unit and Palliative Care Units at RVH Hospital, for their attentive care and concern during Elaine's final days.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, May 24th at the "Ferndale Banquet Hall & Catering" between 1pm-4pm in Barrie, at 24 Ferndale Industrial Dr. Later, she will rest in peace with her parents and sister at Park Lawn Cemetery in Sudbury, Ontario.
