It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Francis Michael LaVerdi, lovingly known as “Frank”, who passed away peacefully on May 29, 2025, at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie, Ontario.  He was 75 years old.

Born on November 21, 1949, in Buffalo, New York, USA, Frank grew up in Tonawanda, New York where he cultivated his natural athletic talents.  An accomplished baseball and football player at Kenmore East Senior High School, Frank's passion for sports remained a lifelong pursuit.

Frank made Canada his home in 1971, embarking on a successful career as an accountant and general controller.  While dedicated to his professional life, he continued to excel in the world of competitive softball.  Residing in Newmarket, Frank was a standout player for local teams, including the Rays and the Nationals.  His exceptional hitting prowess was instrumental in making him a key member of these teams, leading to his selection for Team Ontario at the Canadian Nationals.  Frank's talent further elevated him to the national stage, where he proudly represented the Canadian National Team multiple times at the World Championships.

Frank was predeceased by his beloved mother, Angeline LaVerdi, his father, Frank LaVerdi and his adored grandson Payton O'Handley.

He is survived by his loving wife, Gladys LaVerdi, who shared many cherished years with him.  Frank's memory will be forever treasured by his sister, children and grandchildren:

- Son, Keith LaVerdi and his wife Jennifer, and their children Rhys and Dorian.

- Son, Ken LaVerdi and his wife Billie, along with their children Angelina and Alex

- Daughter, Gina and her husband Guy Lavallee, as well as their children Davis and Georgia.

- Daughter, Margaret and her husband Bill Hopcraft and their son Will.

- Grandson, Liam O'Handley and wife Marianna.

- Son, Cory O'Handley and his wife Sherry, and their daughter Lenna.

- Sister, Roseann Spallino and her husband Peter.

- Niece, Monica and her husband John Fronczak as well as their children Jonathon, Joseph and Jordan

- Nephew, Pasquale Spallino and his wife Colleen along with their children Peter, Giovanna and Larissa

Frank will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his remarkable athletic achievements, the humour and strength he brought to all aspects of his life.  His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A private cremation has taken place.  The family will hold a private gathering to honour Frank's life.
