It is with deep sadness that we share that Gene Gallant passed away suddenly on Saturday, January 31, 2026. Anyone who knew Gene will find comfort in knowing that, just before he passed, he had been out with Gwyn on one of their regular date nights, enjoying a nice meal and a glass of red wine.
Camille Eugene “Gene” Gallant was born on October 12, 1943, in Memramcook, New Brunswick, to Jean and Roseanna Gallant. The baby in a large French-Canadian family, he cherished his close relationships with his siblings and their families throughout his life. He was deeply proud of his Acadian roots and made sure his children knew and appreciated their heritage.
At sixteen, Gene moved to Toronto, where he began his career and met Gwyneth (Gwyn), his wife of 56 years. Together they raised their two children, Renée and John, in Aurora — a town Gene proudly embraced as his home.
Gene was a familiar and beloved presence throughout Aurora. He volunteered for many years with the Aurora Minor Hockey Association, served as the voice of the Aurora Tigers, and was a regular at local events, hockey rinks, and neighbourhood restaurants. He was immensely proud of his country and his sports teams and was often seen driving around with their flags flying from his car. Gene loved his family, his friends, hockey — especially his beloved Maple Leafs — and being part of the community around him.
Gene leaves behind his wife Gwyneth (Gwyn), his daughter Renée and her husband Patrick, his son John, and his grandchildren Carter and Maryn. He is survived by his brother Gerry, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he loved dearly.
A Celebration of Gene’s Life will take place at a later date.
In honour of Gene’s lifelong love of hockey and his many years with the Aurora Minor Hockey Association, memorial contributions can be sent directly to the AMHA at:
P.O. Box 71555, Aurora, Ontario, L4G 6S9 | 905-727-1480
or by e-transfer to: amhabookkeeper@gmail.com
Please include the donor’s name and the reference “In memory of Gene Gallant.”
Donations will help cover registration fees and equipment, giving children the chance to play the game that brought Gene so much joy. Go, Leafs, Go!

Posted on: Wednesday, February 11, 2026My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the Gallant Family.
I knew Gene throughout his support of the Aurora Tigers JR A Team which was for many years.
And as the family mentioned he was a supporter of all sports and so well known throughout our community.
He will be missed so dearly around the rinks, he sure knew his hockey.
He would always have a smile and say hello.
Gene Rest In Peace

Posted on: Wednesday, February 11, 2026Jeff, Mark and I would like to extend our condolences to the Gallant family. Gene has been a wonderful support to my boys the past years and it has been much appreciated.
I also meet Gene on Bleecker St. many years ago. He was always very kind and thoughtful.
Throughout the trials and tribulations of life Gene was always there with his wave and smile making sure everything and everyone was doing just fine.
The heavenly hockey team has just scored a major star.
You will be missed! Thanks for being you! 🩷

Posted on: Thursday, February 12, 2026I would like to express my sincere condolences to you Gwyn and your entire family. I wish you peace and comfort in these difficult days. I was totally shocked to hear about Gene’s passing. In reading the obituary, it brought back many memories from Bleecker Street. Gene visited me in Moncton when I moved there – I saw this man walking through the parking lot wearing a hockey jersey in the middle of summer – sure enough it was Gene. He sure loved hockey. May you rest in peace Gene🙏🏼 You will be missed.

Posted on: Friday, February 13, 2026Our thoughts, prayers and deepest condolences are with the Gallant family with the passing of Gene,
dear husband of Gwyn, father to daughter Renee, son John and Grandpa to Carter and Maryn. Gene was a big influence to our family on Bleecker St. and also a big contributor to the Youth Center. It was always a pleasure to again experience his big beautiful smile, his big wave and his genuine love and care displayed towards us all when he visited family and friends in Moncton and area. Yes certainly he was a huge fan of hockey and involved for many years with the Aurora Minor Hockey Association. He will be greatly missed. Rest in peace dear friend.

Posted on: Monday, February 23, 2026As a family, we met Gene when he befriended our father- Alfred Watson, many years ago. They both were avid hockey fans and would often travel together to numerous Junior A games around Ontario. As time went on, our dad’s health deteriorated but Gene continued to include him in his hockey travels whenever possible. He was a kind man who brought much joy and happiness into our father’s life and , for that, we are very grateful. We were saddened to hear of his death and offer our sincere condolences to his family. We are confident that Gene will look for Alfie in heaven and they will find the nearest hockey game to watch and critique!
