George A Evans passed away peacefully at Hospice in Barrie, Ontario, on March 28, 2017 at the age of 82, surrounded by his loving family and dog Snoopy. George courageously fought his battle with cancer, hardly slowing down, with true dignity. George was born, raised and educated in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba. He is pre-deceased by his parents Frank and Eva (nee Johnston) Evans, and two sisters Anita (Jake) Smiley and Doreen (Edward) Murray. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Diane (nee Forsyth), three daughters Kim (Stephen) Milak, Katherine (Craig) Pearson and Karen (Steve) Livesey, and three grandchildren Alexandra and Ethan Milak, and Natasha Pearson. He will be sorrowfully missed by many cousins, nephews and nieces in Manitoba and Ontario. George worked for CN Rail for nearly forty years, ending his career as Head of Signal Maintenance from Toronto to Armstrong Ontario. After retiring in 1993, George started his own business maintaining signals for the Contractor that looked after the Signals in Barrie Ontario for the next fifteen years. Over the years, George kept in contact with many of his school friends, and Railway coworkers. The family thanks Dr. Melissa Witty for her compassion and care throughout the years.

Love you dearly Dad. Thanks for all of your love, everything you taught us, all the wonderful memories you created for me and Natasha, for your strong work ethic and for pushing through anything relentlessly. You fought this battle with cancer so courageously that many would never have guessed how ill you really were. Rest peacefully and know that Mom and Snoopy will be well cared for.

My heart goes out to you and your family on the passing of your Dad. Kathy always talked about him with a smile in her heart and even though I never met him I know he was a great husband, father and grandfather.

It is with a heavy heart that I say goodbye to my grandpa. He was the very heart of our family; the provider, the hard worker, and the fighter.  My grandfather was my hero and the strongest man I’ve ever known. He fought his battle with cancer courageously and never lost his wonderful sense of humour.

To the man who taught me my ABCs, how to ride a bike, and drive a car, who helped me pick out my first home and who dropped everything to be there for his family. Thank you grandpa for being a great example for your children and grandchildren. Your legacy will live on in all of us.

How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard. Until we meet again, grandpa. Thank you for all the wonderful memories. I love you and I’ll see you again someday.

My condolences to the whole family. I worked with George at CN and knew him for years in the north and then in Toronto. He and I at times were at loggerheads as we were both the same type person. We got a long well most times and I respected him for his knowledge, his decisions and his accomplishments till he retired. CN lost a good man when he retired, and now he will be a good man up above. Very sorry he is gone.
