It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George Lionel McHattie of St.Brieux, Saskatchewan at the age of 77, on December 24, 2023 after a short illness. Born in Newmarket, Ontario to the late Kenneth and Margaret McHattie (nee Prime). Predeceased by his brother, Robert Ivor McHattie.
He leaves to mourn his brother, Douglas McHattie (Goldie), two sons, Wade McHattie (Charlotte), Robert McHattie (Andrea Alfieri), his 6 grandchildren, Tanner McHattie, Nicole Crowell (Jack), Lauren Edgar (Jacob), Finley McHattie, Ben McGregor, and Hunter Alfieri. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Markus, and Evelyn Edgar.
A proud longtime member of Union 793 as an Operating Engineer, he served as a union steward for a period of time. Outside of work, George dedicated himself to helping and mentoring many people through his involvement in youth hockey and as a member of Alcoholics Anonymous. Upon his retirement, George relocated to St-Brieux, Saskatchewan, where he resided for many happy years. Try as they may, his family could not convince him to move east, as he truly enjoyed the people, fishing, and camping in the area.
As per George’s wishes, there will be no services and his ashes will be scattered by immediate family at a later date. George’s Facebook page will remain open and all are welcome to post memories and final words to him there, and online condolences can may be made at www.peacefultransitions.ca.

Posted on: Sunday, December 31, 2023Wade and Rob. Sorry to hear of your dad’s passing. Many great memories of him from our hockey days as kids. A big towering man, that big beard and looking back I remember you can’t judge a book by it’s cover because he was so kind and caring. His tough look did not reflect the kind man he was. All the best to you both through this difficult time. Doesn’t make sense now, but in time it gets easier. Peace to both of you my friends.
