It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon James Wathen, who left us peacefully on September 15, 2025 at the age of 95 in Barrie, Ontario.
Gordon was born in Toronto, Ontario on June 2, 1930 to Edwin and Anne (O’Brien) Wathen.
He loved life and was quick to always crack a joke. Gordon worked as a Sales Manager for Imperial Tobacco for 31 years, he was a dedicated member on their team, who always strived to give the best service he could offer.
Gord was devoted Mason 32nd degree member of the Scottish Rite, as well with the Three Pillars Lodge 192 for 33 years. He also held a special place in his heart for his fur babies (Buttons and Casey Jones), as well as feeding the local birds, squirrels and chipmunks.
Some of Gord’s hobbies included golfing, boxing (until his nose was broken), and also sung in a band for a few years.
Cremation has taken place, as per Gord’s wishes, and a private burial will take place at Barrie Union Cemetery on a later date.
“Spring has sprung, the grass has riz,
I wonder where the birdie is?
They say the birds are on the wings,
but isn’t that absurd, because I know the wings are on the birds” - Gord Wathen
