Hannelore (Lori) Puetz
March 15, 1926 - April 4, 2015
Sadly missed, fondly remembered
It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Hannelore Puetz on April 4, 2015 at Royal Victoria Hospital at the age of 89. She now joins the love of her life Bernie, who predeceased her by almost two years to the day, in their own special heaven. The two of them had been married for 70 years at the time of Bernie's passing, and life was never the same for Hannelore without him. They came to Canada from Germany in 1965 and Lori (as she was known to her Canadian friends) worked at many jobs in Barrie over the years. She ended up working as a shoe sales lady at Sears in the mid 1970's and stayed there for 13 years, enjoying time with co-workers and the customers. When she "retired" she took up golf, along with the rest of the family, and joined Royal Downs
(now Bear Creek) Golf Club. The family trophy was awarded annually and it had Lori's name on it a number of times over the years. She loved cooking and baking for everyone, from a simple cup of coffee and homemade cake, to huge Christmas feasts, and was known especially for her authentic lentil soup and potato pancakes! She and Bernie made their home on Baldwick Lane in Utopia, On the centre of family fun and gatherings for almost 50 years, hosting multiple generations along the way. In the last two years Lori became active at the Innisfil YMCA, particularly enjoying the Aquafit classes there. She always loved swimming and had found the exercise and camaraderie at those Aquafit classes very therapeutic. She maintained good health, self-sufficiency and her drivers licence up until her last day, when she was taken from us suddenly by a stroke.
The family wishes to thank all of the nurses and staff in emergency at RVH as well as the nurses and Dr. Shaver on the palliative care floor for their compassion and care.
Hannelore leaves her son Hubert ( Vicki) and daughter Marion (Larry), daughter in law Lia Puetz along with 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Lori was a woman who loved to laugh, and especially so at herself, a rare trait indeed.
A private family ceremony has already taken place.
