Jean Barrett, age 95, passed away peacefully at Southlake Village, Newmarket, Ontario on October 11th, 2025.
Jean grew up in Toronto and began her family in Etobicoke. She enjoyed her job at Simpson’s, Yorkdale as a jewelry sales clerk, where she worked for many years, and left in 1988 to help care for her grandchildren, Tyler and Alexis.
Jean moved into Southlake Village residential care in July of 2022. While there, she received excellent care. Our family wishes to sincerely thank the staff on 2 West and, in particular, Sarah (Head Nurse) and Dr. Michael Borchuk.
As a devout Catholic, Jean enjoyed reciting “Hail Mary.” Jean was an excellent cook. She was an avid knitter who also did beautiful needlepoint work. She enjoyed reading and playing Bingo. Her boys and grandkids could always get her chuckling, as she had a great sense of humour. Her robust laughter will ring in our hearts and we will cherish many fun-filled memories. Jean was a thoughtful, loving and generous person. Caring for her grandchildren when she was able to, would bring her the most joy.
Jean has one sister, Adele, who lives in Florida and two nephews and a niece.
Jean Barrett is survived by her family, three sons: Robert Barrett (Lynda), and granddaughters, Kelsey, Hayley, great grandchildren Beau, Violet and Zander.
Richard Barrett (daughter-in-law, Lisa), grandchildren, Tyler and Alexis, great grandson, Felix.
Chris Barrett (Oksana), grandchildren, Justin and Amanda. “Nan” will be sadly missed by our family.
