Jean Margaret King (nee Simpson)

February 28, 1925 - July 1, 2023

Funeral Details: Private Family Arrangements

Passed away peacefully at the I.O.O.F. Odd Fellow & Rebekah Home in Barrie on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at the age of 98.  Jean was born on February 28, 1925, in Nottingham, England.

At age 16 Jean joined the Wrens (Women's Royal Naval Service) during WWII.  Jean married Kenneth Herbert King on 21 April 1951.  They emigrated to Canada in 1957 and together raised four children: Stephen, Peter, Wendy, and Andrew.  As well as being a steadfast homemaker, over the years Jean worked at a few different jobs, became involved in several community issues, and yet still found time to enjoy her favourite pastime: contract bridge.  Jean was something of a custodian of the English language and used this to advantage when proofreading and editing reports.  She particularly enjoyed and valued working at Soil-Eng Limited (now Soil Engineers Ltd.), and even in retirement kept in touch with them.

Jean was predeceased by her husband of 69 years in 2020, and is survived by her four children, ten grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.  She will be greatly missed by all.

Thanks to all the PSWs, the staff, and the volunteers at Odd Fellow & Rebekah Home for the care and assistance provided over the past three years.
