Joachim Ferdinand Hendrikus Blum died with family by his side on July 25, 2025.

Joachim was born in the Netherlands in 1952, to Anna and Johannes Blum.  He was 1 of 7 siblings; the first boy of the bunch which, according to his siblings, meant that he got away with everything.  A smart, beautiful, mischievous boy, brother to Ans (Wim) Maria (Fokko) and Wilma (Jan & Cees), Jan (Marianne), Herman (Tiny) and Andre (Jaqueline).

Joachim moved to Canada in 1981 with ex wife Micky, he was a hard worker and quickly demonstrated that he was well suited for the job.  Joachim was well respected among the people he worked with and was known to be a relatable, fair man with a great sense of humour.  Shortly after immigrating Joachim had three children Emiel (Su), Von (Raylene) and Lynette (Cody).  Joachim taught his kids many things especially to see the positive in every situation, to work hard, try new things and not to take life so seriously.

Joachim married Karen Jacobs in 1998.  They enjoyed travelling and lived in Mexico for 3 years where their son Johannes was born.  They moved to Spain for two years, but eventually settled in Innisfil closer to family and created a beautiful home together.

Joachim continually had a project on the go, even when his health started deteriorating from Parkinson’s disease.  He never stopped moving, fixing and breaking things.  Despite the adversities he faced daily, he continued to have a positive outlook in life.

Beloved Opa to Madelyn, Zoe, Isaac, William and Millie, his grandkids brought him so much joy.  Joachim was a kind man, quick to open his home to friends and family that was full of laughter and music.

To honour Joachim, we will be having a Celebration of Life on September 20, 2025 at the family home to start at 3:00 p.m. Please rsvp to Karen ASAP at kbjacobs98@gmail.com.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to the Parkinson’s society of Canada.
