Surrounded by loved ones, Maurice Joseph Juneau, passed away at Mount Sinai Hospital on Friday, May 9, 2025, at the age of 61. His passing followed complications from a stem cell transplant, after facing bone marrow cancer with extraordinary strength, grace, and courage.
Maurice was born in 1963 in Penetanguishene, Ontario, and throughout his life, he remained deeply rooted in the values of hard work, curiosity, and love for family. After high school, he began what would be the first chapter of a long and accomplished career, serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force as an electrical engineer. His role supported the maintenance and operation of fighter jets, and his time in the military took him across the ocean, most memorably to Solingen, Germany, where he met the love of his life, Erika. Together, they built a beautiful life. Their first child, Sebastian, was born in Germany in 1989, and after moving back to Canada, they welcomed their daughter Jasmine in 1992.
Maurice settled with his family in Creemore, Ontario, where he later began a new professional chapter at Honda Canada Manufacturing. For over 15 years, he worked in several technical roles, from vehicle testing, fire investigation, and warranty and recalls, before recently retiring in 2023.
But Maurice was so much more than his work. He was a man who loved the natural world, someone who found peace with his hands in the soil, whether tending to the garden, walking in the woods, or simply sitting outside with a glass of wine he had bottled himself. He and Erika loved to cook together, creating healthy meals side by side and sharing laughs in the kitchen. Big man as he was, he still always had a childlike awe for space and weather, having many slow nights sitting on the front porch watching thunderstorms roll by, and would often talk about the stars and space, fascinated by how small and connected we all are under the night sky.
In his younger years, always a lover of water, he explored our lakes through scuba diving, and in recent years, he spoke often and excitedly about traveling again, especially about returning to Germany to visit Erika’s family, and about the road trip he had been planning across Canada to show her the Rocky Mountains.
Maurice loved deeply. He was a loyal, kind, smart, and patient man who always made time for the people he cared about. His quiet strength and gentle spirit will live on in all of us.
