Max Hugh O’Connor

Funeral Details: Private Family Arrangements

With hearts full of sadness, we share that our father, Max Hugh O’Connor, passed away in the early hours of Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Roberta Place LTC in Barrie, Ontario. After living with dementia, he finally found peace.

If you knew Max, you knew laughter.  It was his language, his gift, and his way of connecting with people.  His comedic timing was unmatched—his infectious humour left an imprint on everyone who knew him.  Max had an easy way of striking up conversations with anyone, anywhere, about anything.  He was especially known for his Grover and Yoda impressions, which often found their way onto answering machines or into phone calls—sometimes catching the unsuspecting completely off guard, but always leaving them smiling.

Max was the proud father of Michael O’Connor of Brantford, Ontario, and Karen Ritchie (Kenneth) of Minesing, Ontario.  He adored his role as Grandpa to Brandon, Emily, Abigail, Carson, and Nathan, and nothing brought him more happiness than time spent with his family.

Hardworking and dependable, Max began his career at Penman’s in Paris, Ontario, and later worked at Chicago Rawhide in Brantford.  He retired in 2000 from A.G. Simpson in Cambridge.

As per his wishes, there will be no formal memorial service.  Instead, we invite you to honour Max in the way he would have wanted—by sharing a laugh, telling a story, or hugging someone you love a little tighter.
