Shortreed, Paul Dennis Born on September 28,1938 in Fergus Ontario.

Paul passed away peacefully at Hospice Simcoe on Friday June 13, 2025 with his wife by his side and surrounded by the love of his family.

Paul was the beloved husband of Heather (Finley) for 60 years. Loving father of David Shortreed from Barrie and Sarah Shorteed (Chris Clements) of Shanty Bay Ontario.

He was the very proud grandfather of Emma Shortreed and Kai and Maia Ikonikov. Paul welcomed Katie and Andrew Clements into the family.

Paul was predeceased by his parents Tom and Mary Ellen (Dwyer) and his brother Peter.

The legend of Paul’s working life started at four and a half when he was charged with feeding the Markdale lumber mill clydesdales hot molasses and oats. He grew and was quickly promoted to the dairy wagon/sleigh delivery runner. In the summers of his youth Paul worked in an abattoir where he earned a lifelong distaste of chicken.

After graduating high school in Meaford Ontario, Paul entered into the BMO training program to begin his journeyman banking career throughout Southern and Central Ontario. In total, the family moved sixteen times, finally settling in Barrie. There are tales of two bank robbery attempts, a foot chase through downtown Toronto, and an exciting safety accessory kept in a paper bag in an office desk drawer. Paul’s greatest joy in banking was helping good people through difficult times.

Paul often preferred the company of animals and after his retirement, returned to his first loves; horses and being in the bush. He was a hunter who preferred not to shoot and a rider who brushed and fed carrots until the horses felt like going for a walk.

At Paul’s request, there will be no formal service. His final place of rest will be Lakeview Cemetery Meaford with a beautiful view of Georgian Bay and the “Sisters” rocks he swam to many times.

The family would like to thank the oncology department at RVH and Hospice Simcoe.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Hospice Simcoe www.hospicesimcoe.ca
