Richard C. Sheard
July 31, 1953 - December 4, 2017
Richard (Ric) Sheard passed away in the arms of his family in Barrie Ontario on the evening of December 4 2017. He was taken by cancer. Ric will be greatly missed by his beloved wife of 46 years Judy Sheard, his son Eddie Sheard, his daughter Belinda Bailey and her partner Jim as well as Ric’s grandchildren Dylan, Chrystal, Robert, Jessica, Travis, Jesse and Hailey and his great granddaughter Justice. Ric was the beloved brother to Bob Wiggins and wife Nadia, Susan Sheard, Bobbie Sheard and wife Lauranne, Kathy Cooney and husband Jim and his brother-in-law Ed husband of Ric’s late sister Linda Aukema. Ric will also be missed by all of his nieces and nephews and friends.
Ric’s trucking handle was “The Dirty Dozen”. He drove truck all over North America and through the Rocky Mountains before they were safe to travel and drove the ice roads before they were safe enough to be on television. He was fearless. He frequently provided aid and comfort to accident victims and lost friends to mountain driving. He trained others to drive truck and helped set guidelines for safer trucking practices. The Dirty Dozen is blazing new trails now.
Ric lived life with joy and passion and accepted all that life brought him, whether good or bad. He loved completely. He travelled, he drove fast and well. He saw beauty in life. He laughed and sang. Ric left a mark on everyone he met. He encouraged everyone to find their strength and live life without regret. He was larger than life. He was a protector, a teacher and a guide. A Gentle giant has fallen and his footprints can never be filled.
The Memorial will be held this Saturday December 9 at 2:00 pm followed by a luncheon at Orillia Kingdom Hall, 519 Laclie Street, Orillia. There will also be a celebration of life in January 2018. Details will be provided once they are confirmed. Posted on: Wednesday, January 31, 2018I am so sorry to hear of Ric’s passing. I came upon the obituary quite by chance. Ted Sheard, married to Liz was my first cousin. My Dad, Richard Daniel James [married to Minnie Emily James] and Ted’s mom, Viola May James, were twins. Ric would be my first cousin once removed.
