Robert “Bob” James Mayo

August 1935 - July 2025

Funeral Details: A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Robert (Bob) James Mayo passed away peacefully on July 29, 2025, in his 90th year.

Son of the late James and Margaret, beloved husband for 67 years to Betty (née Schellenberg).

Loving father of Jim (Nicole), John, and Don (Ni). Proud grandfather of Rachel, Alex, Chantal, James, Jack, Michael, and Sarah; and cherished great-grandfather of Maddy and Lainey.

Bob is survived by his sister Sandra (Bruce), nieces Cheryl (Marty) and Stacey (Remy), and their children Megan, Emily, Nic, and Luc.

Born in Edmonton, Alberta, Bob moved to Saskatoon to attend university and earn his Chartered Accountant designation. It was there that he met Betty - they married in 1957 and built a life full of love, family, and adventure for an incredible 67+ years.

Bob was a successful businessman in the Canadian oil industry, working with Royalite, BP, Gulf, and Petro-Canada. He began his career running an oil refinery in Saskatoon and rose through the ranks with multiple promotions. These career moves took the family from Saskatoon to Calgary in 1966, to Vancouver in 1971, and finally to Thornhill in 1972, where Bob worked for many years.

Wherever Bob was, he could be found working hard through the day and enjoying his evenings with family and friends. A proud, long-time member of the Kinsmen Club in every city he lived, Bob valued community, camaraderie, and giving back.

Bob and Betty created a lifetime of memories at their cottage on Six Mile Lake, where Bob was happiest working on projects and visiting with friends. Winters were spent in Fort Myers, Florida at The Pines, golfing at Eagle Ridge Golf Course and relaxing in the sunshine.

For over 40 years, the family also gathered annually at their timeshare at Sanibel Beach Club II - a tradition that brought everyone together.

Since retiring in 1989, Bob often reflected on the many friendships he built during his career and the good fortune of a full, rewarding life.

A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

In memory of Bob, donations may be made to Southlake Hospital c/o Southlake Health Foundation, which provided exceptional care throughout his visits.

My parents, Harvey and Sheila Benson, have very fond memories of Bob and all of their many get togethers at Six Mile over a great many years. They really knew how to live!
    May he rest in peace.
