    Uncle Butch,

I don’t think that I ever thought to thank you for all that you did for me:

Thank you for being the protective big brother that made time to invest in a friendship with my mom that made her feel special and loved – she bestowed that onto me.

Thank you for being there for my mom and me, even before I came into the world, when you invited us into your home – that act of kindness has resounded throughout the years as a lesson for being there for your family, no matter the cost.

Thank you for allowing me to get to know you over the past year – I learned that your thoughts and reflections of your life experiences were similar to mine, and that even though we had not really known each other over the years, we shared many similar views.

Thank you for your smart-ass sense of humor – it validated me.

Thank you for all your kind words and encouragement to finish my papers for school – those words were often the little push I needed to get them done.

Thank you for your trust in being able to share our vulnerabilities – this was a big lesson for me, and I am really thankful that we could trust one another to share what often goes unsaid about ourselves.

Finally, I wanted to thank you for being my uncle and for being apart of my life and my family – you were an important part of everything that came to be and yet to come.

    I love you very much.

    Nicole
