It is with heavy hearts and great sadness and that we share the loss of Steven George Goheen, age 70, who passed away suddenly on October 5th, 2025, in the ICU at Royal Victoria Hospital surrounded by his loving family.  Although taken from us too soon, Steve enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest, right up to the end.

Steve was born on November 23rd, 1954 in Barrie, ON, raised by his parents Ernest and Myra Goheen in Stroud, ON, where he later settled with his family and continued to cherish small town values and commitment to community.

Steve worked in Electrical Sales since he graduated high school, from starting as a driver to working up to sales and management.  Working in sales allowed him to make connections that would turn into life-long friendships.

A devoted husband, father and Papa, Steve was the steady foundation of his family.  He dedicated his life to everyday moments that mattered most, from early morning pop ins to family get togethers to cheering on his grandchildren at every school and rep sporting event.

From a young age, Steve could be found on the field, court, diamond or ice.  Whether it was playing sports, coaching sports or cheering from the stands, Gogo brought values of teamwork, sportsmanship and perseverance.  Steve’s passion for sports was more than a pastime; it was a way of life and a way of connecting with others.

As a husband, he was known for his devotion and ever-lasting love and commitment to Susan, who Steve married on September 17th, 1977.  They had two children, Stacey and Scott who will remember him for his constant source of support and encouragement, someone they could always count on.

His role as a Papa brought him immense pride and joy.  He embraced it with the same enthusiasm, generosity and unconditional love. Steve loved nothing more than spending time with his three grandchildren who in turn cherished their Papa, he was a true family man who didn’t miss a thing.

Steve was the definition of caring, generous and selfless.  He gave his time, his energy and his support without ever expecting anything in return.  He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered and forever honoured.

Steve is survived by his wife Susan, children Stacey (Michael Schmidt) and Scott (Melissa) and grandchildren Tristan and Tanner Schmidt and Olivia Goheen, siblings Sheila (Ernie Goebel) and Paul, sister in-laws Joyce Goheen, Lillian Norman (Ernie), brother in-laws Bill Brocklebank (Sue), Len Archer and many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents Ernie and Myra, father and mother in-law Townley and Alma Brocklebank, brother Stewart Goheen and sister in-law Betty Archer.

Steve’s family would like to thank the staff in the Emergency Department, Imaging Department and ICU at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre for their genuine care and support.  In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to these departments or to The Hudson Regional Cancer Centre.

I met Scott in university, unfortunately we only spent 4 months together. We made an instant bond and became lifetime best buds. I had the pleasure of spending a few nights at Steve and Sue’s home. We had some fun, maybe too much fun at their place. Steve was a great man, I saw so much of Steve in Scott- both one of a kind guys. It was really hard to learn of this news as I know how close they were. My condolences go out to Sue, Scott, Stacey, Mel, Liv and family.

We met this family when Tristan was playing hockey. As a fellow grandparent at the field, rink and ball hockey Steve was always a friendly face to say hi to. I know he will be sadly missed by all the kids he’s followed over the years as well as the parents and grandparents he met along the way. Condolences to your family Sue, Stacey, Mike, Tristan and Tanner as well as your brother and his family. God speed Steve

I worked with Steve at Hudco Electric for many years. I will always remember how he would come to me to submit his claim forms to the benefit company and I was happy to do that for him. Steve was a very devoted family man and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He would send me pictures and ask me to print them in colour for his office wall.

    Steve will be greatly missed.

Sorry to read about Steve’s passing. I lived towards the lake on the 10th line and went to Sunnybrae with Steve from grade 4 to 7. One year the 2 of us somehow got to the Barrie fair and had the best day ever. Great memory.

Our hearts fell heavy with sadness to hear of the passing of Steve. Although we were mere acquaintances at the rink, cheering on the girls, he was such a nice man, with a friendly smile and we always enjoyed sharing a few hockey stories. Please accept our deepest condolences and strength during this time, and may his memory be a treasure to you all.

    Sincerely
Rick and Gail Wilson (Quinn’s grandparents)
