Alan McNicoll

August 19, 1946 - February 19, 2020

Funeral Details: Postpone Date and Time to be Announced

McNicoll, Alan: An avid golfer, Hearts supporter, scotch enthusiast and retired soccer star passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 19, 2020. Born on August 19, 1946 in Edinburgh, Scotland to Helen (nee Cordiner) and George McNicoll. Loving husband of Hilda Yeung and step father to her children Henry, Angela (Angel) and the family dog Yoki. Alan leaves his two loving children Fiona (Allen) and Colin (Rebecca) and their mother Margaret (nee Hoggan). His nuances, wit and banter resulted in so much laughter and created many amazing memories for everyone. He loved family dinners and never missed bringing the buns and cheesecake. We will cherish and continue the tradition of cooking a Scottish breakfast Christmas morning. He was a good listener and was non judgemental which made him a loving and caring family man. He took great pride solving everyone’s problems, analyzing, listening and taking care of his family. He took care of his home and didn’t rely on others for help. Alan was an extremely proud Papa of his five grandchildren Allix (21), Jack (19), Charlie (7), Ryian (7), and Callum (7). Papa went on adventure walks, kept treats in his pockets, played in the pool, built Lego and was always coaxed into whatever activity was going on. He loved going to hockey games and taking the kids out for lunches. Papa never said “no”. Alan will be fondly thought of by his cousins Maureen & Norman, extended family, friends and past colleagues in Scotland and Canada.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Al was always a quick wit and full of banter no matter what the occasion. On our annual trip to South Carolina in April each year he was the source of entertainment both in the SUV on the way down and on the golf course.

Al was a Quality Guy who we could count on to have our back. He always tried to do the right thing and make sure he pulled his weight.
Get us a later tee time, Al. We will all be there in good time.

Our condolence to His family and friends.

Dear Fiona, Colin and your families. It is with a heavy heart that we in Scotland heard of the passing of my cousin Alan, who we have such happy memories of. He was indeed a loving, easy going family man who loved his kids and grandkids. When he came over he was armed of photos of you all. Our time in Canada with you all was 40 years ago, and the fun and laughter are still vivid. We never met Hilda and her children, but Alan showed us photos, and he was so happy the last time he came to stay. Our thoughts are with Hilda too. We are also thinking of your mum Margaret and hope you are all together at this sad time. Memories are precious, keep them in your heart.

To Colin, Rebecca & the McNicoll family:
My heartfelt condolences, what a terrible loss. He will live on in my memories in the countless stories my folks shared & the times I spent with him as well. He was always good for a laugh, or cheeky remark when necessary and he sure loved his soccer.
Again my deepest condolences to the McNicoll family, but I’m sure he’s watching a soccer match, cracking a few funnies & having a scotch or five with Tommy up in heaven. Scottish heaven.

My condolences to Hilda, Angela, Henry, Fiona and Colin and their respective families. I am sorry for your loss. He was very proud of all of you. Alan was a good friend. He had a sharp sense of humour which I brought out of him on a regular basis on the golf course. Along with everyone else, I will miss him. RIP Al.

I am sorry to hear of the passing of Allan. I cherish our conversations together at his home and him making me dinner a few times when I came to visit. Allan was a very hospitable and kind man to me. Thank you for caring for Henry for these many years.
    God Bless
