Amber Dawn Landgraff

October 29, 1983 - August 1, 2018

Funeral Details:

Amber Landgraff (1983-2018), our fierce feminist daughter and sibling, still dreaming of saving the world from her palliative care bed, passed at Southlake Regional Hospital, Newmarket, on August 1, 2018.

Daughter of Doug Landgraff and Deborah Pearcey, sister of Molly Landgraff. Granddaughter of Margaret Pearcey, niece of Cathy Pearcey (John St. Amand), David Pearcey (Wendy Cox), Ken “Rick” Pearcey, and Rod Landgraff (Linda). Cousin to Kristina Wiseman, Steven Landgraff, Erika Lam, and Calvin Pearcey.

Amber was a former director of Xpace Gallery in Toronto and was a strong supporter of emerging and young artists. She was a fierce advocate of worker rights. Amber fully explored topics such as collective support of workers as a means of resistance and structures for collaboration and process of collective making. Her projects often focused on kindness, reciprocity and generosity.

She co-founded, with Deborah Wang, FEAST (Funding Engaging Actions with Sustainable Tactics) Toronto; a series of community dinners and micro funding events.

Amber collaborated with groups such as Fast Wurms during Nuit Blanche to perform tarot card readings, edited and contributed to Fuse Magazine, as well as writing essays for books and other art journals.

Donations to any local Hospice or to Southlake Regional Hospital Cancer and Palliative care Wards would be in keeping with Amber’s themes of kindness and generosity and would be appreciated.

Thank you so much for your fierce support of emerging artists, Amber! I know the next part of your soul’s journey will be peaceful and beyond anything you ever dreamed.

Aretha Franklin passed today, and I can only assume you would agree with her lyrics:

“Come on, respect me when I’m cookin’
Come on, respect me when I’m cleanin’
Come on, respect me when I’m workin””

–is what we’ll keep on fighting for, on Earth, for as long as we can. Love, C.
