Andrew Anthony Tichelaar

April 12, 1966 - May 11, 2021

Funeral Details: A Mass will be held at a later time

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Andrew Anthony Tichelaar in his 55th year on May 11, 2021.

Cherished husband of Ann-Marie (nee O’Rourke) beloved father and best friend of son Jacob Andrew Tichelaar.  He lived to show and share everything with Jacob.  Whether it was family vacations travelling, ice hockey, golfing, all the ins & outs on fishing, gathering up the neighbourhood kids for a good game of road hockey.  Listening and watching all of the classic songs and movies, or chilling out watching the History channel.  His Mantra to his son, “Never Give Up”.

Pre-deceased by his parents Anthony and Peggy Tichelaar, father-in-law James O’Rourke, survived by his mother-in-law Joan O’Rourke, sisters-in-law’s Mary-Jean (Ron) and Sue (Brian).

He was a beloved Uncle to many nieces and nephews, Rocky, Justin (Amanda), Thomas (Emily), Grace, Austin, Preston, Nickelas as well as Chantelle (Justin), Nick (Patricia), Vanessa (Jason), Rebecca (Jon), Keelia (Craig), Sarah, and Adam.

It cannot go without mentioning the sorrow felt by his Tante Marge, cousins who were just like siblings, The Vanderkolff’s, Helen (Ken), Dianna (Roy), Yvonne (Paul), Paul (Lisa), Cathy (John), Denise (Tony), and Laurie (Erick).

Loved by Tante Will, Ome Pim, Ome Jan, Tante Bep as well as many close cousins in the Netherlands.

Andrew was known as an astute business man, his love of the outdoors, whether it was fishing, boating, skiing, snowmobiling, ice fishing, sports of all kinds, Sports Central has lost an avid viewer, and the Steelers have lost a #1 fan.  He truly loved spending time in Temagami whether with his family or with friendships that were formed.

Andy was also a guys’ guy, he loved connecting with friends for a drink, conversation, or catching a game on the big screen.  A huge loss to his best buddies and friends met along the way; “Man’s Friendships are one of the best measures of his worth” (Darwin)… to this I say he was a very wealthy man.

Cremation has taken place.  A Mass will be Celebrated at Holy Spirit Church as soon as time and restrictions permit.  In lieu of flowers, if desired donations may be made in Andy’s memory to the RVH Foundation, Barrie.  Online condolences and memories may be made at www.peacefultransition.ca

We love him, we miss him already, rest in peace.

Uncle Andrew always made me laugh and always had a story to tell bless him. Im so glad the last time we were back home we were able to spend some time together. As a child I was always so happy to have him on my team for those great soccer games we used to have at the cottage.

Ann-Marie and Jake my heartfelt condolences. Andy was a great friend. We grew up together in the Seven Oaks neighborhood where he lived on Oakmeadow Blvd, and got into a lot of mischief together : ) We were classmates at St. Edmund Campion grade school and went to Neil McNeil HS together in grade nine. We kept in touch over the years and would occasionally meet up to catch up. He always spoke of you and Jake with great pride. He was a great life long friend and will be missed. Many fond memories. Rest In Peace my friend.

    Dear Anne-Marie and Jake
Our heart breaks for you. Such great memories growing up with Andrew and the wild child he was! My favourite was walking home from the movie theatre Bijou after having watched Benji with Mom and my sisters. Andy was so excited and animated, loving each passing dog. There are so many times he made us laugh. We will miss that laugh and sense of humour. And his love of family, yours, ours. He will be so sadly missed.
Love Cathy John and the kids

I just heard the news of Andy’s passing. My sincere condolences to you both.
I adored Andy as a friend and as a business man. Meeting over 30 years ago, we worked together, played baseball together, had many bus trips to Montreal and then re-connected years later in business.
He will always be remembered fondly and missed.
