It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Barbara (Barb) after a courageous battle with CREST syndrome on December 17th, 2023, at the age of 73.  She will be tenderly remembered by her devoted husband of 34 years, Richard, and celebrated as the extraordinary mother to Cindy Lloyd, son-in-law Sean Nugent, Laura Lloyd, and daughter-in-law Becca Schwehr.  Barb was a proud grandmother to Kaileigh Nichols, Zack Freedman-Lloyd, Ben Freedman-Lloyd, and step-grandmother to Curtis Schwehr, Graeme Nugent (Martha Chase), Carleen Nugent, Evan Nugent, and Josh Henry (Keeley Park).

In addition to her immediate family, Barb is mourned by her first husband, Bruce Lloyd (Linda Osborne), who shares in the sorrow of her passing.  She is survived by her sister and brother-in-laws Shirley Gudgeon-Gillespie (Dennis Gillespie), Alan Gudgeon (Dhanmatie Gudgeon), step-nephew Dr. Patrick Gudgeon (Dr. Dawn Ng), their son Nathan, and step-niece Danielle Dawson-Edwards (James Dawson-Edwards) and their son Arlo.

Barb was predeceased by her brother, Ronald Hunt, and her parents, Kenneth Hunt, Mildred Ruddell (nee Hammond), step-father George Ruddell, father-in-law, and mother-in-law Rodney and Madeleine Gudgeon.  She will be warmly remembered by many friends and extended family.

Family was always a priority for Barb, exemplified by her unwavering support attending and volunteering for her girls' sports events and creating cherished memories with her grandchildren, nephew, and niece through special outings and camping trips.  A talented quilter, Barb's personalized quilts are cherished by many, each telling a unique story.  An avid reader, she proudly boasted over 1,000 books read.

Barb and Richard's love for adventure took them boating and camping in Georgian Bay and beyond. They explored various parts of Canada and the US with their trailer.  In retirement, they dedicated their time to volunteering for the Jack Russell Terrier Rescue, screening adoptive families and transporting dogs to their furever homes, adopting a few furry friends along the way.

A heartfelt thank you to the nurses and doctors in the ER, ICU, and Surgery departments at Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie for their compassion, exceptional care, and for honoring Barb's wishes in the end.

A celebration of Barb's life will be held at East Bayfield Community Centre, 80 Livingstone Street East, Barrie, Ontario, on Saturday, December 23rd, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. Please join us to share stories and have a cup of tea in loving memory of Barb.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to Jack Russell Terrier Rescue Ontario Inc. (JRTRO) at https://russellrescue.org/donate/  or any animal rescue of your choice would be greatly appreciated.

My heart is broken for all of you. Barb was such a strong and pleasant patient in Protea Dental. She would always take an interest in my personal life and was always making sure we were all doing alright. Her sweet and kind Richard always there to help her and aid in every way he could. Heaven gained an angel today and I know she will protect her husband and her family now. Peace to her and to the family. The world lost a great mother, wife, and friend .

Richard, Cindy,Laura and families. I have known Barb for most of our lives, we have cried together, laughed together and raised our children together. Barb was the type of person everyone aspired to be, especially as a mom. She was so great at everything she put her hand to. She was my best friendg in this world and I will surely miss her. We could go for years and not speak but the minute we saw each other it was like no time had passed at all. She was the sister I never had. I miss her and grieve for her too. Hugs to you all, from Aunty Annie.
