Barbara Lorna Smith

Funeral Details: A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date

It is with very heavy hearts that the boys announce the passing of their beloved Mother, Barbara Lorna Smith (nee Dean) at the age of 74.

Barbara was born in Haliburton, Ontario, raised in Toronto and eventually settled in Barrie where she became the proud mom to Dean (Dawn Osborne), and Neil (Catherine Makad-Smith).

Barbara and her boys were the first residents of the 3 Links Co-Op on Sunnidale Rd. in Barrie, and she has lived there ever since (1984).  Barb is a familiar face in the neighbourhood and her presence will be missed by the community.

Nothing brought Barb greater joy than her 3 grandchildren Avery, Quinn, and Ethan who will always remember their nanny as caring, fun, and artistic.  Bonus Nanny to Nick and Kayla.  Survived by her very best friend, who is treasured by our whole family, Joan Pero.  Barb will be deeply missed by her brother Jimmy (Jane), and Sister Marnie along with her cherished nephews and niece.  Predeceased by her brothers Murray, and Allen.

Once getting her diagnosis of pancreatic cancer over 4 years ago, Barb chose to live her life with appreciation and acceptance.  She has precious friends that contributed to her strength and courage by surrounding Barb with love and care.

Our family would like to acknowledge Terri, her devoted PSW and Nurse Charo who were committed to our mom’s well-being throughout the years along with all the nurses and PSWs that spent time with Barb in her home.

At Barbara’s request a small private service was had, and cremation will take place.  A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.  In memory of Barb donations may be made to Hospice Simcoe.  Online memories and condolences may be shared at www.peacefultransition.ca
