Funeral Details: Private family arrangements

STRUDWICK, Ben

With deep sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Ben Strudwick on June 17, 2022 at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, Barrie, Ontario.  Ben was born as William Lionel Benjamin Strudwick to the late William and Marjorie Strudwick on March 22, 1941 in Toronto, Ontario.  Ben is survived by his loving wife Barb and his dear family, daughter Tracy Arkell (Eric Snape), son Derrick Harden, step-son Todd Arkell (Meira) and his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.  He will always be remembered by his brother-in-law Corrie Rudd, the McAlpine clan and his friends.  Ben is predeceased by his son Adam Harden and his late wife Joan Fillmore.

Ben loved life.  He loved his pets Duffy and Pewter and took great pleasure in their company. He also loved old musicals, camping and sailing with Barb, and escaping to Algonquin with his buddy Joe.  His sense of fun and humour endeared him to friends and neighbours.  Ben's beautiful singing and melodic whistling could be heard at any time and any place he happened to be.  He enjoyed performing in local theater with Little's Hill Players and cabarets with Madcap Players at the Lions Hall. More recently Ben performed with the Parkview Singers and Vocal Maturity.

Through a long illness Ben stayed true to himself and made the decisions he believed in.   We are thankful for the compassionate care he received from the nurses, physicians and staff on 4GC at RVH, his Healthcare team, caring homecare professionals, and the amazing support from his family, friends and neighbours along this journey.

He will be missed.

In keeping with Ben’s wishes, a private cremation will be held.  Online memories and condolences may be made at www.peacefultransition.ca

Barb & family, I am deeply saddened to learn of Ben’s passing. I send my deepest condolences to you all. I had so much fun singing Put On Your Easter Bonnet & other musical duets with Ben while we were both with the Parkview Singers. He had such a good sense of humour, & was ever so encouraging to me sharing his musical experiences. He contributed to the Parkview Singers in such a relaxed & fun way. He will be missed.
May you be comforted in your sorrow. Joan

I will remember Ben for his laughter, his caring attitude and his unwavering support for me while I was with the Parkview Singers and (briefly) Vocal Maturity. I could always rely on him for a thoughtful answer to any question I had. He was capable and considerate.

My sincerest sympathy to you, Barb, and the family. I didn’t know Ben well, but I could tell he was a kind and gentle man. During the first Christmas potluck I attended at the Health Library, Ben sang a Christmas carol. I think the lyrics may have been altered a little! It was humorous and his voice was lovely. May knowing you are in my thoughts during this difficult time provide some comfort. Take care and we’ll talk soon.

I remember Ben from when I was a young teenager and he was a leader in our church congregation in Barrie. I always appreciated his gentle encouragement and his good humour. With his late wife Joan he will always be remembered for the fun and help they provided to others along the way.
