Funeral Details: Celebration of Life will be held at a later date

Bernardus (Ben) Johannes Van Rooyen
Passed away peacefully at Hospice Simcoe, Barrie on Wednesday, March 15th, 2023, with his family and dog Ziggy by his side.

Beloved husband of Patricia (nee Wilson) for 43 years.  Proud father of Alexander (Krystina) of Sutton, Alicia (Chase) Harrison of Keswick, and Christina (Darren) of Alcona.  Loving Grandpa to Jaxon and Cara.  Brother of John (Janet) of Keswick and David (Michele) of Barrie.  Predeceased by sister Susan, parents Ben and Nel, and stepfather George.

Ben was born in Holland in 1958. He immigrated to Canada with his family in 1959.  He grew up in Bradford, moved to Alcona in 1984 and settled in Belle Ewart in 1988 where he built a house and raised his family with his wife Pat.  Ben retired from the electrical trade in January 2020 as a member of the I.B.E.W. Local 353 and long time employee of T3 EMR Inc, Newmarket.

Ben will be fondly remembered for his integrity, perseverance, and loyalty.  He had an easy-going nature and a never-ending sense of adventure.  When thinking of Ben, phrases like “get ‘er done”, “it is what it is” and “quit fussing” come to mind.  When asked what he was most proud of, Ben replied, “my family”.  He will be missed.

Cremation has taken place.  A celebration of life will follow at a later date.  Memorial donations made to Hospice Simcoe or Brain Cancer Research would be appreciated by his family.
