After a long and fulfilling life, we lost an incredible, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

On September 20 2024, Betty Anne Lazzara passed away peacefully with family by her side at South Muskoka Memorial Hospital in Bracebridge.  She was 93.

Betty will be deeply missed by her children Richard (Lois), Michael (Donna), and Sarajane (David).  She also leaves a deep void in the lives of her grandchildren Milan, Lauren (Trevor), and her great-grandson Paxton.

Betty was predeceased by her husband Carm.  She was the daughter of the late Ruby and Jack Learoyd.  She is also predeceased by her brother Roderick Learoyd and her sister Margaret McCarty.  She leaves behind her sister Jean Smith.

Betty was a natural nurturer which led her to a career in nursing.  She attended nursing school at the Ottawa Civic Hospital and in 1956 she proudly graduated as a registered nurse.  She donned her white cap and nurses uniform for a 30 year career as a nurse at South Muskoka Memorial Hospital.  She began her career in the Bracebridge Memorial Hospital (formerly the James L. Fenn home).  She continued her career in the new hospital, South Muskoka Memorial Hospital.

Betty married her best friend Carm in 1958.  They spent time travelling, socializing with their many friends and spent quality time with family until he passed away in 2007.

Betty was a voracious reader.  She loved to bake, stroll the streets of Bracebridge, travel, and more than anything, spend time with family.

Betty will be remembered for her quick wit, sense of humour, and for always having a joke to tell.  It was her humour that made a lasting memory for all she met.

A celebration of Betty's life will be held Saturday, October 5 at 11:00 am at the Salvation Army, Bracebridge Community Church, 456 Manitoba St.  There will be a light lunch following the service.

The family requests donations be made to the Salvation Army Bracebridge Community Church, 705-645-2602.

Betty was one of this world’s treasures…rich in personality, love and compassion. Her interest in people won her a host of friends wherever she was…to have met Betty, your day just got better because she was an encourager. Having known her for a very long time, I share your heartfelt loss. This world was a better place because of Betty. God granted her a fruitful life and a loving family. May God be your refuge and strength as you call to mind the privilege you had in having her as your Mom. Peace be with your family as you celebrate Betty’s rich and fulfilling life. GD

Dear Family, Our condolences go out to each of you in your loss of Betty. Kim and I have known Betty for many years and she was always such a positive person with her joke telling and interest taken in our lives and family. She was a woman of faith, and will be missed at the Salvation Army church, where she attended regularly. It is a comfort to know her suffering has ended and she has entered her eternal home, where there is rejoicing at her arrival. I believe my Mom will be part of that rejoicing. May you feel God’s loving arms around you in the days ahead.
