A great guy, a gentle spirit……til you put a fishing rod in his hand. We spent many hours fishing the Bay of Quinte and Charlie was the only guy who was never shut out. He could really fish and got super competitive as soon as he hit the bay. We had many Quite rituals, picking up kolbasa at Checowskis, pie at the Big Apple picking up cheese curds at Grumpies. He was a talent artist, he had a very dry sense of humour and an extremely quick wit.

He was my cousin and I will miss him.

Years and years ago I received a gift…a butterfly. As a stained glass artisan, I loved it and wanted to know how the glass was so different….duh! he painted the glass. My gift was from out east so I phoned the shop from which it was purchased by my friend. Funny enough, the proprietor said it was made by someone in Oakville! I then contacted Charlie and let him know how much I loved my butterfly, Eventually, he ‘allowed me into’ his workplace in Oakville (no one was allowed in lol), took me to where he bought glass wholesale, and then he sold his butterflies and birds wholesale to me for many years for the long running artisan collective in Hamilton, Textures Craftworks (which I founded, with others in 1983…still successful). Sadly his ‘last bird and butterfly’ sold in December. Over time we became good friends. I listened as he nursed his wife through her cancer. I listened and offered advice when he wanted to ‘move on’. Eventually he met Daisy which was so wonderful. One year Daisy, Charlie. my hubby Leo and I went to Cuba together. Another time, Leo joined up with them in Florida. When possible we got together for dinner here. Every time Charlie called here he made us smile …a joke or a ‘phony voice’. Charlie was a gentle soul who loved to joke and was super talented. We think of him every day and are so happy that he ended up meeting Daisy who was so caring and ‘good for him’. Charlie was also extremely/super talented. Charlie was my friend and I miss him.

It is certain that we never lose the people we love, even to death. Charlie will continue to participate in every act, thought and decision you make. His love for you leaves a permanent imprint in your memory. Charlie’s life was far too short, but he made a big impact with his creativity and I’ll always remember him. My heart is breaking for you. I’m praying for you and hoping you’ll find some comfort in that.

Charlie’s smiles always in our heart and we sure will never forget.
It was just so sock to know things went so fast that we never thought of.
Sorry to miss you in your golden age though we think there would be a long way ahead.
Life is just so short and hope we all have the assurance for future.
    Rest in Peace.

Charlie was a talented stained glass artist. His leisure time was enjoyed golfing and playing tennis, he was very good at it.

We have so many wonderful memories with Charlie from the past few years. Some of our favourites include playing tennis together, going skating and snowshoeing in Collingwood with him and our mom, Daisy, and most recently, fishing! It also meant so much to us that he would come to cheer us on at our softball games.

His fashion sense was of one of kind or let’s just say- legendary. For as long as we have known him, Charlie often wore vintage jerseys, tie dye shirts, tasseled jackets, and hats that lit up.

If you didn’t already know, Charlie had an amazing sweet tooth. He loved his cookies and candies. I will always remember how his face lit up when I made him a box of baked goods last year and we smile every time we remember having breakfast together in Collingwood to celebrate our mom’s 60th birthday. Charlie definitely had more maple syrup than pancake on his plate!

When Adrian and I first met Charlie, we quickly noticed his positive spirit and how talented he was at so many things. But the thing we loved most was how much he loved our mom.

We are so thankful for the time we had with Charlie. He truly left us too soon and he will be so missed.

I met Charlie about 30 years ago when he married my niece Sharon. I always enjoyed his company but we were more relatives than friends for many years. We became friends after Sharon passed away. He caddied for his uncle at Islington Golf Club when he was a kid. I’m a member there so I got him out a number of times. He birdied 6 holes his first time playing there (but has the dubious distinction of not breaking a 100 despite 6 birdies). We golfed and fished many times over the past 5 years and I was looking forward to getting out even more with Charlie whenever I retire. We were supposed to golf with a few other friends for 2 days in mid-October but he had to cancel. This was the fist time I knew something was clearly wrong. I will miss his long drives off the tee (and then looking for his ball at length), his terrible short game, his wry sense of humour and his quick wit. He was a free spirit but not in a bad sense. He was creative, smart (in an aw shucks way) and fun to be around. I’m sure I will think of Charlie whenever I go fishing, or golfing, or look at the beautiful eagle and heron reproductions he gave to us. I will certainly miss him. Our thoughts and condolences to his family and Daisy. Be well, Dave, Olga and Kate

I have many fond memories of Charlie with our family. I will remember his fun-loving and easygoing nature, and all the meals we shared. He lived life to the fullest, and encouraged my mom and us to do the same. Our lives have become more colourful because of him.

My deepest condolences to Daisy and Charlie’s family. I spent time with Charlie over the years when Poyee and I visited Daisy in Canada. He was always easy-going and friendly. I remember him going with the flow, being a patient tennis teacher and really enjoying shopping for the clothes! Charlie made beautiful artwork and shared many pieces with us. I know he made my sister-in law Daisy, very very happy and he will be sorely missed.

I met Charlie soon after Daisy and him first met, I was struck by how much they were in love and how happy Daisy was. Over the years, I got to know Charlie pretty well. Beneath his easy smile, he was a man who followed his heart.
Life showered Charlie with many gifts: tall, handsome, athletic, many talents, but most of all, he met Daisy! Daisy devoted her life to him until the day he passed away. 64 years may not be a very long time, but I would say he lived his life, as Frank Sinatra sang, “I did it… MY WAY”. Rest In Peace, Charlie, you will be missed!

I hope you know how much Charlie meant to Don and I. My life changed when I met him. When I got laid off from my government job (after 18 years) Charlie probably saved my sanity. He put his total trust in me as I began to “help” him with his shows. Because of him, I learned to step outside my very shy self and face the world head on. He was the one who pushed me and my knitting into a business. I don’t think he ever really understood how important he was in my life. He was my brother and my friend.
My whole family is heartbroken at his passing. Mom will miss his dry humour and his teasing. For almost 30 years Charlie was a constant in our lives. We are richer for having known him and honoured to have called him “FRIEND”.
The world has lost a special person….far too soon.
In this crazy time of COVID-19 , I realize that there is not much Don or I can do to help you through this sad time. Know that if there is anything we CAN do for you, we will try and do it.

Charlie had an unique bright personality, characterised by his colourful fashion style, his talented musical creativity and his passionate stained glass crafting skills

Whenever we visited Toronto from Hong Kong, we would buy him a bag of gummies which he absolutely loved. The smile and joy when he received the candy was just like that of a little kid!

We hadn’t have much opportunity to see Charlie as we live in Hong Kong, but from our few encounters we could tell he was a generous, genuine and humorous man.

Charlie and Daisy spent many happy years together before he left us. Rest in peace Charlie, you will be missed!

      Dear Daisy and Isabelle
I am so sorry to discover the loss of your beloved partner and son. I remember very well how much Charlie loved his cats. His cat Herman was the cat he had during our relationship and after Herman he and I had Burwick together. I met Charlie at the stained glass store where we both took lessons. We went on to do many a craft show together. I was the extrovert sales person and he the introvert and shy artist. I have very fond memories of our years together and of spending time with his parents and sister Linda. This morning, I thought of him and came online to find if he is still selling his gorgeous pieces and found this announcement. Daisy, please tell Isabel I think of her often and she or you can call me anytime. 705-758-1748 Huge hugs for both of you. 🌹🌸🌹

We were so different in so many ways – You were tall, I am short, you were big, me, small; you were extremely introverted, and I’m highly extroverted. You had so many hobbies and were good at all of them, while I have no hobbies besides my work. Though I often felt that you were so talented while I am so ordinary, you accepted me totally as I am. Yet you still taught me how to enjoy life and have fun. You introduced me to tennis, cross-country skiing, the ukulele, and golf. I am not a fast learner, but you were always so patient and encouraging.

Charlie, you showed me how to live a fun life. I am so honored to be the sole audience of your music, but wish that your music could have been enjoyed by many more people. I always told you, “When I am sick, I want you to sing me songs beside my bed.”

Our six years were very special. Our love is profound. Our silliness and inside jokes are delightful. The last 4 months were heartbreaking and devastating, Charlie, but we went through that difficult time together. I thank God for having you in my life. I love you Charlie.

    Yours

My deepest and heart felt condolences to all of Charlie’s family and friends and anyone who had the pleasure of meeting Charlie. I met Charlie at the Mayfair tennis club, we hit it off right away. I always thought his classic shirts matched his personality. Such a fun, outgoing , free spirited guy. I loved our tennis matches together, we never gave up, until the last point. I wish I had met you sooner than we did. You will be greatly missed my brother. Rest in peace Charlie.

Our deepest and sincere condolences to the family. We were saddened to hear this news today. We met Charlie at Mayfair and I played on the same Inter-County tennis team as him. I didn’t know him well – but he had a great energy and always smiled when our family saw him at the club.
I admired his competitive but kind nature. Charlie’s second serve was just as hard as his first. The kids always remember his smile and colourful tie dye shirts. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

I am deeply saddened to hear about Charlie’s passing. I knew Charlie through my close friendship with his late wife Sharon. We lived in very close proximity to each other for many years and as a result I spent a lot of time at their place. Charlie did a lot of work on my house and also cat-sat many times. Charlie & I were also the ones bringing up the rear in the ‘stop and smell the flowers’ cycling section of all the various cycling events Sharon organized.

He deeply loved animals and really was a cat whisperer .. he was able to win over my feral cat Clive who was initially so terrified of everyone. Charlie nursed Sharon through her heartbreaking journey with cancer. All of Sharon’s friends noted how endlessly supportive he was of her endeavors – if she was happy, he was happy. I am really touched reading Charlie’s tributes and really grateful that Charlie found love and happiness again. If anyone deserved someone to love and be loved by, it was Charlie. It is evident that love was Charlie’s super power and I wish he could have had more years with Daisy. My deepest condolences to Daisy, her family and Charlie’s family. May he rest in peace.

The first ones I bought when helping him at his shows. He was loving and caring with Sharon during her fight with cancer. It was hard for him to move on; but Daisy you brought sunshine and laughter back to into Charlie’s life. He was missed when he moved to Barrie but I always knew he was there. Well it’s the end of September 2021. I have been putting this off. Charlie is my brother. I miss him everyday and I see him everyday, on my walks in the park, in the birds and butterflies. He led his own life on his own terms. He said it wasn’t fair that he had to die but that he pretty much did everything in life that he wanted to do. He told me he was successful beyond his wildest dreams. Not many of us can sincerely say that. I now understand how hard it was for him to deal with the loss of his first wife Sharon. I’m so thankful that he found such happiness and love with Daisy. You don’t meet many people like Charlie and I’m so fortunate he was my brother.
