It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of Christopher David Winter, who passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of October 25, 2026, at Royal Victoria Hospital, surrounded by love, with his sister, Jennifer, and brother-in-law, Mike, by his side.

Born on December 25, 1976, Chris was the beloved son of the late Earl and Karen Winter. He spent much of his early childhood growing up on a hobby farm in Craighurst alongside his siblings, Stephen, Jason, and Jennifer. Growing up on the farm helped spark Chris’s love for animals, which remained a special part of who he was throughout his life.

Chris also loved the outdoors and the thrill of adventure, enjoying dirt biking, skidooing, downhill skiing, and fishing. Working on small engines and vehicle repairs was another passion of his over the years. These were some of the things that brought Chris happiness and created memories his family will cherish for years to come.

Chris faced a long and difficult battle over the past 4 1/2 years, enduring challenges that tested his strength in ways few could imagine. Through it all, he took life one day at a time, facing each new hurdle with the love of his family and his own unique sense of humour and sarcasm. Even through the hardest days, Chris still found ways to make those around him laugh, reminding everyone that his spirit was still there.

His journey was never an easy one, but he was never alone. His family stood beside him through the difficult days, cherished moments, laughter, and tears, creating memories that will be held close to their hearts forever. The love shared throughout his journey will remain with them always. While his family and friends grieve the loss of his presence, they find comfort in knowing that his suffering has ended.

I would like to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to certain staff members at Grove Park Home who made a difference in Chris’s life. A special thank you to the Spruce Unit caretakers, who were part of Chris’s everyday life and meant so much to him—and to us. I would also like to thank the Maple Unit team, and the many staff and residents throughout the home who showed Chris kindness, compassion, and care during his time at Grove Park. You will always be remembered as part of his journey. May it bring you a little peace to know that he is now enjoying his favourite spicy ramen noodles and sipping unlimited energy drinks, all on his own.

We would also like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the care team at Royal Victoria Hospital for the care, kindness, and compassion they showed Chris over the years, and especially throughout his final weeks of life. To everyone on the Respiratory Unit, thank you for surrounding Chris and our family with so much love, strength, and compassion during one of the most difficult times of our lives. We felt the love that filled that unit, and the support you gave us is something we will carry in our hearts forever. An extra heartfelt thank you to the nurses who cared for Chris during his final days. Thank you for helping make his final days peaceful, for caring for him with such compassion, and for giving our family the strength and comfort we needed to be by his side. Lisa, you will always have a special place in my heart as you did in Chris’s.

Chris, one thing you said to me in your final days was, “We got this.” And we did. We faced the unimaginable together, through the hardest days and the moments that tested us more than words could ever explain. No matter what we were up against, we had each other. Now, as I try to navigate a world without you in it, I will hold on to those words and remind myself that we made it through so much together. And even though I have to find my way forward without you by my side, I know we will be okay, just as you always believed we would be.

Donations to the Spinal Cord of Canada   or Ontario SPCA  in Chris’s memory would be greatly appreciated by the family.
