With great sadness and heavy hearts, we said goodbye to the vibrant and charismatic Clarence Messervey, on Thursday, November 13, 2025.  He passed peacefully at Stevenson Memorial Hospital, surrounded by the love of his family and friends at the age of 70 years.

Beloved husband and partner of Debbie for over 51 years.  Loving father of Tracy (Ryan), Mike (Joni), and Ryan (Leanne).  Much loved grandpa of Mackenzie and Carter.  Dear brother of Susan, Jane, Clayton, and the late Butch; and brother-in-law of Fr. Wayne, Carol, Donna and Lorri.  Uncle of many nieces and nephews and rescue dad to the many dogs he and Debbie opened their homes to.

To say that Clarence added a little spice to life is an understatement. He was full of sass, always ready with a joke or a prank, often followed by a giggle or a wink. And he LOVED to tell stories! He lived a dynamic and storied life with countless experiences to draw upon and share, both in laughter and tears. What we would not give for just one more story.

As an arborist he dedicated his life to forestry, earning unparalleled respect for his vast experience as a climber and a trainer. Throughout his 35 year career in municipal forestry with the City of Toronto he mentored and grew so many talented arborists. his son Ryan included. It was his passion, his calling, and something he was so very proud of.

Above all else, he loved his family. His life with Debbie was filled with adventure, taking them around the world with dear friends and family.

He took immense pride in watching Tracy, Michael and Ryan, build their lives and families, flourishing as strong, independent people. He welcomed Joni, Leanne, and Ryan to the family as though they were his own. More than anything he loved being a grandfather to Mackenzie and Carter. Every moment spent with them filled his heart with joy.

Clarence and Debbie spent many happy retirement years as snowbirds at their second home in The Villages, Florida, a vibrant retirement golf community. There they made many friends, both on and off the course, creating lasting memories, and sharing countless moments of laughter.

Clarence touched countless lives.  His spirit, humour, and love will be remembered always.

Rest easy now Clarence, we love you and will carry you with us always.

Uncle Clary, you will be greatly missed by all. I loved your personality since I was a young child. I remember Christmas at your and Debbie’s home growing up and riding in the back of your S10 with the fold-down seats—even as a kid, it was a small space. lol. Golfing with you was absolutely a riot; you and dad going at each other. You had Caleb laughing the entire time. We will always be wishing for one more round with you, one more joke, and one more smile. I will miss you, as many others will!
