It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Dakota Oegema on November 16, 2023.

Dakota was a beloved brother to Dustin (son of Melinda), Dawson, and Debwewahns (children of Barb). He will be deeply missed by his girlfriend, Mikaela Dias and his adoring parents Sharri Goguen and Earl Oegema. Survived by his Pa, Ken Exell and Oma, Wilhelmina Oegema. Dakota leaves countless cherished memories with his many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and his wide circle of friends.

He had a passion for sports, especially hockey, lacrosse, and skiing. Dakota found joy in the outdoors, where he thrived. His outgoing nature, unwavering friendship, and kind spirit made a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to have known him. His brothers held a special place in his heart, and his love for them was immeasurable.

The sentiment that truly captures Dakota's resilience and outlook on life, his words, "Trust the Process." These words reflect his belief in perseverance, patience, and the journey through life's challenges. Though he may no longer be physically present, his enduring spirit and the wisdom of his words will resonate and inspire those who continue to cherish his memory. Dakota's legacy of strength and positivity will indeed live on, comforting and guiding those who were touched by his remarkable presence.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Canadian Mental Health Association at https://cmha.ca/  in honor of Dakota’s memory.

Dakota's departure has left an irreplaceable void, but his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Sharri and Earl, we are so sorry to hear about Dakota. He was such a great kid, he was so kind, great sense of humour, gifted team player and a very respectful young man. Our years of Ballhockey together were filled with many memories. My heart breaks for you and your family.
