David Andrew Tarrant

August 5, 1960 - July 25, 2021

Funeral Details: Friday, September 10th, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. Willow Creek Baptist Church, Midhurst, ON

On Sunday, July 25th, 2021, David Andrew Tarrant passed away the same way he lived; surrounded by love, adoration, and humour. He is survived by his wife Marie (nee Wiese), his children, Susanna, Jackson and Macy, his son-in-law Dylan, his grandchildren, Audrey and Dawson, his brother, Ian Tarrant and sister Carol Mercer. His last wishes were to hold a celebration of life with as many people in attendance as possible, to fill the room with flowers, stories and music and discuss what an amazing friend, father, grandfather, brother, and husband he was. In keeping with his wishes, we will hold an event in his honour on Friday September 10th, 2021, at 11 a.m. at the Willow Creek Baptist Church in Midhurst, Ontario during which time we will attempt to replicate his sense of humour and musical taste. He was a reluctant genius at trivia, everyone’s personal chauffeur, and the best friend anyone could ask for. We love you so much it’s ridiculous.  Online memories and condolences may be made at www.peacefultransition.ca

Condolences to Dave’s family. He was a great friend, amazing family man and all around caring person. We will miss him dearly. The only guy who could have actually beat the Watson computer.

You were my best friend. But then, you were everyone’s friend. Our hearts are broken. We made it to 30 years married and I am grateful for every day I had with you. You created the best family and group of friends anyone could ask for and we lean on each other to bare the weight of the hole you have left. Life was not fair to you. Cancer is a curse but you carried it with grace, dignity and the best attitude anyone could have. I love you so much its ridiculous.

Farewell, Dave, aka “the back office.” I so admired your sense of humour, your sarcastic wit with which you would poke the bear mercilessly (and she secretly loved it), how you lovingly and unselfishly raised your children in a role that many men would have had a hard time sustaining, the relentless research you put into making trips (business and personal) as amazing as they could be — which, thankfully, I was the beneficiary of on more than one occasion, and just, well, your way of being in the world. You fought the good fight for so long and now deserve peace, knowing you did all you could do with your damnedly too brief time on this earth. You were the husband of my dear friend, but I considered you my friend also, and I’m glad to know you felt the same. Thanks for being in my life.

Marie, Susanna, Jackson, and Macy, I know your hearts are breaking. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. I am so sorry for your terrible loss.

    Big hugs,

    Margaret

The world is a much less brighter place than it was a week ago. Dave was absolutely one in a million. I wake up each day missing that funny, engaging, witty, cantankerous personality…….. which was a big part of my life for over 45 years. Dave was a fantastic friend. Our sincere condolences to his wonderful family during this difficult time. I know Dave’s family was absolutely the most important thing in the world to him …….Andy and Trish

I am so sorry to hear of Dave’s passing – an enormous loss to Marie, Suzy, Jackson, and Macy, extended family and friends, and the world as a whole. He was a gentle and lovely man who will be sorely missed by all.

I smiled when I read about the celebration of life event planned with music and humour as that is definitely fitting to reflect Dave’s life.

Please accept my warmest condolences, I’m sending thoughts of peace and courage your way.

Peter and I were saddened to hear of the loss of your husband Dave. We have heard so much about the Tarrant family through the years from my sister Marion Plunkett via Susan and Brian and feel as if we know you all. May the beauty of his spirit live on in all your memories. Our deepest condolences.

I have such fond memories of the first time I met you, Dave. It was at the Cookstown Wing Ding, the annual community-wide yard sale where your mission was to find a gaudy and/or useless item for the ensuing party and “tacky gift exchange” with Marie’s extended family. A lesser man may have been intimidated by the crazy antics that were typical during our family gatherings. However, you fit in from the beginning, obviously enjoying the nonsense as you intermingled so effortlessly with the family, and all the while charming us with your wit and your sense of fun.
You leave behind a long list of family and friends who love you and whose lives have been made all the richer for having known you.
Adieu, mon ami, and may you Rest In Peace.

Marie, it seems to me to be most fitting that you have expressed your love for Dave with the same words he said to you on your wedding day.

    He was a real mensch.

    Marie, Susanna, Jackson and Macy:
    You have my condolences.
    I’m thinking of you.

Marie, Suzanna, Macy, Jackson….we/your Atlanta family are all so saddened to hear of Dave’s passing. We wish we could have come up there to see everyone this past year, but Covid has hit and won’t let go. I remember Dave and Y’all coming for our kids wedding and after having been here once, the next time he remembered all the roads and knew his way around better than me…..I was always amazed how good of a memory he had and his great wit and personality. Our sincere condolences go out to all of our Canadian families, he is at peace now. We hope to see everyone sometime in the near future.

Dearest Marie, Susanna, Jackson & Macy: We were shocked and so very, very sad to hear about Dave’s passing. May all the wonderful memories you made together, somehow ease the pain.
Dave was the best neighbour ever! (Horseshoe Valley for 8 years) He was always upbeat, cheerful and that dry wit – OMG, he always had something funny and interesting to say. He was the first “stay @ home Dad” we knew, he embraced it and was superb in the role. As the years went on, Les remembers him saying one day: “I don’t know if Marie’s figured this out yet, but Macy’s gone to school & I’m home alone”! 😂 We remember seeing Dave walk your dog Charlie, or should we say: Charlie walked Dave! They would be on the streets for hours, Charlie would even lay down & have a rest and Dave would patiently wait. We were the recipients of one of those “Wing Ding” purchases and we displayed it proudly on our back deck. Quite simply, he was one of our favourite neighbours and we shall dearly miss him. May he Rest In Peace. Love Les & Donna Dean

    Dear Marie,
Janice and I were so saddened to hear Dave had passed. Dave was indeed unique and specially made. Andy’s photo reminded me that Dave was the most skilled ‘loutish style’ ball hockey player ever 😀
I loved Dave’s trenchant, straight faced humour most when he reeled you in, then burst into that fabulous unique smile and laugh, to kindly let you off. We send you and family our thoughts and prayers for peace and strength.

I will always remember Dave as the quiet and collected one in the room while all the rest of us carried on at the tacky gift exchange. Secretly I think he was just as crazy as the rest of us but was more selective in his song and dance choice and tacky gift section.
Dave will be more than missed and we send all our love to Marie, Susanna, Jackson, Macy and the rest of the family.
Love, Amy, Ewan, Charli, Luca & Dylan.

We have just heard of Dave’s passing and are very saddened by this news. We send our most sincere condolences to Marie, Susannah, Jackson and Macy. It has been quite a few years now since the family lived in our neighbourhood, however, we fondly remember Dave – his amazing sense of humour, his quick wit and especially his kindness. May all the wonderful memories shared as a family help to soften your sadness, and may you find peace having him in your hearts forever.
    With deepest sympathies,
    Cathy Fortune & Don McKay

Marie, Jackson, Susanna, Macy and family,

We were very saddened to hear of Dave’s passing and we send our deepest condolences.

Our memories of Dave is how he loved his family and was always there for his children and family pets.

Marie, I remember seeing you and Dave relaxing and listening to music in your backyard like young lovebirds, holding each other’s hands and I remember thinking how much you both loved each other and the fun you had together.

His great sense of humour and his laid back manner is another good memory.

I know how much you all must miss him and know we are all thinking of your family at this time.

Dale, Pat, Christopher and Elizabeth Hurley

Family gatherings will be the poorer for your absence, David, and the next one will be the hardest.

Thank you for fighting so hard and so gallantly.

Until next time, dear friend…somewhere, sometime, somehow.
