Funeral Details: Private family arrangements

Lighthall, Donald Arthur

Passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Hospice Simcoe on February 28th, 2023 at the age of 65.

Predeceased by his father Peter Lighthall.  Son of Fiona Lighthall and beloved husband of Helen Lighthall; father to John and Candace Lighthall and Lindsay and Nick Eisses.  Brother to Doug and Heather Lighthall and Beth and Rob Visser.  Son-in-law to Ron Buffett and brother-in-law to Dale Pickard and Lawrie Buffett.  Papa to Harper and Elliotte Lighthall.  Grampa to Liam, Nola, and Gavin Eisses.

Don was born in Picton, Ontario and was raised in different cities in Ontario and Quebec.  He enjoyed living in Newfoundland and New Brunswick with a young family.  Don then returned to Ontario at the age of 35 and upgraded his schooling to become a CGA.

Prior to being diagnosed with ALS Don enjoyed golfing, hockey, trips to Mexico and grabbing a burger with friends and family.  When he could no longer enjoy outings, he focused his days on loving his family well.  He was always there to talk about the latest Leaf’s game, sports or anything his grandkids wanted to talk to him about.  He will be greatly missed!

A special thanks to the ALS Society who provided support to Don as well as the PSWs and nurses who provided exceptional care for Don which enabled him to stay at home.

As per his wishes a Celebration of Life gathering will be held with close friends and family.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the ALS Society in Don’s memory. https://als.ca/ways-to-give/

I was one of Don’s daily PSWs, and his loss has hit us all very hard. Don was the most amazing, happiest, funniest client and will always be like family. Sending all my love to his amazing wife Helen, his children and his beautiful grandchildren. Rest in peace my dear friend, until we meet again xox

I was one the privileged PSWs that visited with Donald. His visit was one of those I was always looking forward to because it was once a week. His sense of humour was exceptional and he was very respectful toward PSW. Despite his challenges, Donald was always interested in how my day went. Honestly, I miss him. My heart goes out to all his family members, especially Helen, his dear wife, and Gavin. Rest in perfect peace, my amiable friend.

    Helen, John and Lindsay,

I’m so very sorry to hear of Don’s passing. During the years that we served on the CGA Board together, I enjoyed Don’s work ethic, his sense of humour, and his grounded outlook on life. In addition to representing his profession well, he was an inspiration to those he met. He was taken far too soon, and will be dearly missed by many.

I was shocked to learn of Don’s passing. I wish I had known of his battle. We worked together for a time and I loved Don’s work ethic and great sense of humour. We kept in touch except for the last few years, unfortunately. My heart goes out to the family because he will be sorely missed.
