Donald Frederick Brox (Fred) in his 89th year passed away peacefully at Hospice Simcoe August 24, 2022 surrounded by family. He is survived by his loving wife Audrey, of 70 years and his daughters, Gail Hall (late Gilbert), Nancy Rowell (Frank) and his son, Howard Brox (Tara).

“Papa / GG” will always be remembered and missed by his eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly and enjoyed spending time with. He adored all the family dogs and spoiled them with treats, touches and new tricks.

Fred enjoyed a long career as a self-proclaimed “Agriculturalist”. His career spanned over six decades with General Foods, Hostess Foods & OPDI.

As Director of Farm Operations, Fred oversaw production for millions of acres of “spuds” that went into making the potato chips we all love & enjoy today. Fred’s knowledge was unrivalled in the potato industry where he became famous for knowing something about everything and everything about something.

Throughout his life, Fred upheld the Brox qualities of kindness, humour, hard work, intelligence, toughness, compassion and humility. He was an outstanding Lions Club member who amongst other distinctions, received the Melvin Jones Award from Lions International. Fred was an upright Brother of the Masonic Order with Kerr Lodge 230 (Barrie). He loved his community and was the best neighbour you could ever ask for or be pranked by.

The family would like to thank our “angels” at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital in Toronto, Toronto Western Hospital, CCAC and everyone at Hospice Simcoe.

My deepest sympathy to the family. I had the privilege and pleasure of working with Fred during his time at Hostess and ODPI. A straight up person to do business with who became a good friend and mentor in my young career. He will be missed by his family and all who knew him. R.I.P. Fred
